Don't Give Me the Stink Eye!

I was preparing my lunch today, and the beasties heard me open up a container of whipped cream cheese. Everytime they here a container open in the kitchen all three of them come running.  They think I should feed them my food. I don't feed them human food, but they always want to try it. I looked down and told them, "you don't like avacados, cream cheese, or green onions." They still sat there looking at me. I continued preparing my food, and I looked down. The little cat was giving me the stink eye. I'm not kidding! She had one eye cocked up, and her lip was snarled. At that point I thought to myself, you ungrateful little thing. And then I told her "Don't give me the stink eye, or I'll give you another bath." Now I do realize she is a cat and doesn't understand what I'm saying, but she did look away as though she was offended.

So here's a quick easy lunch or snack that your cat's are sure to want to try, but will not find appetizing. You on the other hand should find it quite tasty!

1 avacado, pitted and peeled
1 heaping tablespoon of whipped creamed cheese
2 green onions, chopped
1 pinch of garlic salt
1 flour tortilla

1. mash the avacado with a fork
2. mix avacado and cream cheese
3. mix in the green onion and garlic salt
4. spread on flour tortilla and roll it into a wrap.

I promise it really tastes great!

Things I would love to own.

This sleevesless top from the 1960's is adorable! I love the blue flowers, and the fact that the pattern continues onto the back of the top. I think it would look fabulous with a pair of crop pants. He Was Right!

Isn't it the worst when you have to admit somebody else was right about something kind of silly? I think that overall I'm a fairly optimistic person, but occassionally I do have days when I wake up in a fowl mood. Today was one of those days. I woke up just wanting to feel sorry for myself. There was nothing really wrong with me. After all I have a pretty good life. But this morning I started out making a mental list of all the things I didn't like. After a couple minutes of doing, I remembered what my dad always said, "if you keep a good attitude about things, good things will come of it." So I told myself, the old Oral Roberts line, Something Good Is Going to Happen to You. But I inserted me instead of you.

And it worked! Today has been a fantastic day! A friend of mine called and gave me a bunch of stuff I needed! It was awesome! And then my boss called and said she needed to change to work not just the two days she scheduled me for, but the whole week. Now those things probably would have happened whether I was in a good mood or not, but I was able to enjoy my day up until the point because I decided to be in a good mood. And I was even happier when those great things did occur. So as much as I hate to admit it dad and Oral Roberts were both right.

Things I really would like to have today:

You Probably Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You

I was at work today, and a supervisor I haven't seen for awhile asked me, "What's Heidi been up to?" I told him, "You probably wouldn't believe me if I told you." And it's true. He probably wouldn't believe that over a three week time period. I wrote a book. Ok, it's a very small book, but it's a book. You'll learn more about that in time. I opened a store on etsy. And I really decided what I was going to do with this blog. That's quite a bit. And then there is all the everyday stuff I did. And that was really quite alot. So as August draws to an end, I'm happy that it was an extremely productive and creative month for me.

Cockadoodledoo!

I was surprised today when I went to the post office to mail a package. I walked in and there were pigeons cooing. That wasn't really what I expected to hear inside of the post office. Now I did know that you could ship live animals through the mail, but I've never been there when someone mailed off the animals. The gentleman was mailing off pigeons. He gave the box to the clerk, and the clerk put the box of pigeons on the scale. The birds were moving around in the box, so the box began moving back and forth. It was not what you normally see at the post office. I mentioned this to the clerk, and she told me, "those birds aren't too bad. You should be here when they bring the roosters in, we have to listen to them go Cockadoodledoo all day long."

This made me chuckle, and I thought to myself, you never know what will see during a day do you?

Only Where Children Gather Is There Any Real Chance of Fun

My dryer has decided that it is no longer going to assist me with drying my clothes. So after I washed my clothes, I put them in a basket the clothes in a basket, loaded up my car, and drove to the laundromat. I don't particularly enjoy going to the laundromat, but I do have to admit it is always a good opportunity to watch people.

When I arrived at the laundromat, there were quite a few people there for a Monday morning. And there were two different families there with children under the age of five. After a few minutes the children began to show each other their toys, and they played together like they were best friends. In fact the one child began to cry when her new friend and his family left the laundromat.

I am always fascinated at how quickly children make new friends. They trust each, share, and often they care for each other in a matter of minutes. We loose this ability through various experiences on our way to adulthood, but I today I wondered what the world would be like if adults could make a new best friend every day.

(I wish I could claim the quote that is the title of this article, but it was really made byMignon McLaughlin.)

What Would You Do For the Life of...?

I'm sitting here thinking what would I do for the life of a house cat? Now I know there are many animals that don't have great homes, but my cats have it pretty good. All they have to do is come in the living room meow and walk towards the kitchen, and I know they need food. There are three of them so I go into the kitchen a lot! They prefer fresh water over water in the bowl, so they run into the bathroom, and cry if they want the bathtub faucet turned on. If something is in their way and they want to lay there, they simply knock it down onto the floor. Just like they cleared everything off the coffee table so all three of them could lay on it. No problem they think; she'll clean up the mess. And she might yell at us a little, but nothing ever comes of it. Until this afternoon, I got a water bottle. And sprayed them when they got on the coffee table. They all seemed a little startled, but not too upset. They just knocked things off of one of the end tables and laid down on them. You just can't win a fight with a cat!

I hope everybody has a great day, and don't forget those housecats have it pretty good!

Can You Make a Fireman Dance?

I was out running around town with a friend of mine looking for furniture this morning. And we came to the stoplight. As we looked around we noticed that the fireman were out at the intersection. Each of them had a boot in their hand. Yes, it is time for the annual MDA fundraiser. And the firemen in my hometown stand at the major intersections with empty boots collecting money from the passing passengers in vehicles.

We were digging around in our purses for some money to put in the fireman's boot. My friend found a dollar bill, and decided to make a game out of giving money to the firemen for MDA. Since she couldn't get him to tuck a buck for her she asked him if he would dance for the dollar. Unfortunately, this fireman would not dance for her, but it was fun trying to get him to dance.

I often hear people complain about charities wanting their money. And it kind of bothers me that they do this. But giving to others should be fun. So if your local firemen is on the corner collecting money for MDA see if you can make him dance for a dollar.

Here are the items I really love today!

Cat Bathing

I don't know if any of you have ever had to give a cat a bath, but it is a unique experience. It was time for a flea dip for the beasties today. The first one is always the easiest if you want to know the truth. My cats love to be in the bathroom when I am so I took advantage of this situation. I felt a little bad for taking advantage of him wanting to spend some quality time with me, but hey if you have to bathe a cat you do what you need to do. He sat by the tub while I was running the water. I wonder if he thought I was the one taking a bath. But then I picked him up. He was ok with being picked up, but boy he wasn't ok when he hit that water. He immediately began to squirm and cry. He's a good cat so I was lucky he didn't scratch or bite. But I felt bad for him. He was so trusting. He tried to squirm out of the water, but did tolerate it until I was finished. I dried him off and he charged out the door as soon as I opened the door.

But then the other two cats saw him! Their eyes opened wide and you could tell they were thinking "What did she do to him?" And then they immediately ran away. I thought to myself this isn't going to be so easy with the other two. But I did succeed, and there are three damp kitties glaring at me as I write this.

Forget Love...I'd Rather Fall in Chocolate!

Please don't take that statement to mean that I don't believe in love. Or that I have anything against love. Love makes the world go round. It's the greatest of these. But you do have to admit there are times when love can be alot of work. And falling into chocolate just might be easier. And besides chocolate tastes really great!

Your probably wondering why I'm so enamoured by chocolate today so I'll tell you. I was checking out blogs early this morning, and I came across a blog titled From a Beautiful Mess. I read some of the posts and there was a recipe on one of the posts for Red Wine Chocolate Sauce. I thought that sounds tasty! And I read through the recipe and thought that sounds really easy. So I decided I would make it. It turned out fabulous! I highly recommend it. Especially if you need a topping for ice cream. Here's the recipe. Feel free to share it with everyone.

Red Wine Chocolate Sauce, makes about 1 cup

Needed: 1/2 cup red wine (any kind you like or have on hand is fine!), 1 cup dark (or milk) chocolate chips, 1/4 cup light corn syrup.

In a pot simmer the wine over low/medium heat. Allow it to cook for about 8 minutes, it will reduce some. Turn the heat down and add in the chocolate and corn syrup. Whisk vigorously as things begin to melt, then remove from heat and continue whisking until every thing is well incorporated.

I used a sweet red wine, which made it even tastier I think.

Anyway, I'm happy because I'll have something to take for the Thursday night Big Bang Theory meal. All I have to do is stop and pick up some ice cream before I go tomorrow.

If you enjoy chocolate, you'll love this sauce. And you never know you might end up saying Forget Love... I'd Rather Fall in Chocolate.

I hope that everybody has a chance to either fall in love or fall in chocolate today.

Today Was Good, Today Was Fun

Today has been a good day! But it is also a day when I absolutely did not want to do anything other than sleep. Every once and awhile I have days like that. I always have a hundred thngs I want to accomplish in a day, and many days I do accomplish them. But today was not one of those days. I got up early and started to get things accomplished, and then I decided a nap might be a nice thing. I love a good nap. But it usually isn't a good idea. I never really seem to get moving again after I wake up. So the list of tasks for the day has been set aside for tomorrow. And tomorrow will be another good day and tomorrow will be fun.

So since I didn't really get much done today. I thought I would post a link to a page on Ferris Buehler. He was a seize the moment kind of guy, and if he was around he might have got me moving today.

The Greater the Struggle the More Glorious the Triumph

I wish that I had come up with that quote, but it is really from The Butterfly Circus. Don't you think it's a great quote?

Yesterday was a day with some minor struggles. The iron broke, when I needed to iron some items. I dropped the camera and it took its finally picture. I wanted to speak to a live person when I called customer service, but real people don't seem to exist in customer service any more. Those small things add up to big frustration! I finally had to tell myself take a break, and things will turn around. Sure enough they did! A friend of mine called. She told me that she received a free chicken dinner with all the trimmings, and that she wanted me to come over for chicken dinner. So while there were some challenges yesterday, the day ended well.

Sometimes I think it is more the little struggles in life that bring me down than the big ones. Or is it that all those little struggles turn into a great struggle. I don't know, all I know was it was up to me yesterday to decide whether the moments of the day I dwelt on were the things that went wrong or the things that went right.

I hope everyone has a fantastic day!

The Vintage Clothing Miracle

This past weeks has once again been full of small adventures. I went with a friend to Indianapolis to help her promote her book. We put loads of postcards at shops so that people could go to her link. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, and the sky was blue. The temperature was almost perfect. A little hot, but not to hot. It was one of those days that it was extremely hot if you were sitting at a stop light in a car without air conditioning.

We went to a fantastic restraunt for lunch. India Garden was the name of the restraunt. And the lunch buffet was wonderful. They had a lunch buffet that was reasonably priced. The Keema Matar was fantastic as well as the garlic naan. If your in Indianapolis looking for a place to eat than I recommend India Garden. Here's the link:

http://www.indiagardenindy.com/index.html

But the week had an really high point with the vintage clothing miracle. Last Friday on payday I decided to visit The Salvation Army store since they were having a bag sale. I just can't resist those bag sales. As I was going through the racks the staff members began to bring out new items. I started looking at the new items they brought out, when I noticed several items of vintage clothing. In all I was able to fill five bags full of vintage clothing items.
