The Dragon and The Scholar, Volume 2 Dragon’s Debt by H.L Burke

Dragon’s Debt is the second book in The Dragon and The Scholar series. In this book Shannon and Ewan’s story continues. It begins with some sort of creature flying in and stealing young girls. After a month the girls are returned unharmed physically, but they have no memories. They don’t know their names, their families, or where they are from. And the creatures are bold. They even steal the woman that Ewan’s brother, Edmond is in love with.

Now, the surest way to be hunted down is to steal a princess. Especially, if the princess’s father doesn’t like to back down, the princess has an older brother who is devoted to her, and the princess’s boyfriend has a dragon for a brother. The hunt leads them to a wizard who has turned toward dark magic. And in retaliation for the hunt the creatures steal Shannon.

This book shows how Ewan and Shannon’s relationship has developed. How they have found companionship even though Ewan is dragon and Shannon is human. The books shows that the best relationships are built and don’t just happen. And it also shows that sometimes if you love someone you have to just let them go even though neither one of you want to let go.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and I liked this book even more. I love the adventure of the story, the mystery behind the missing girls. Shannon continues to be a strong female character, who is intelligent and independent. Shannon does pretty much as she pleases, but she is sensitive to the needs of others. Her relationship with Ewan is based on mutual respect. They both want what is best for each other, even though Ewan might be mistaken about what is best for Shannon.

I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of fantasy literature. The book is written well, and the story flows. Shannon is an excellent character that I believe young females would enjoy reading about. And let’s face it, who can’t resist a book with a dragon as one of the main characters. And I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

You can purchase the book, through Amazon.
