Charlie Leavy Music Review

Charlie Leavy is a female singer/songwriter from the UK. While she is young, she was born in 1996, her music shows maturity. Her voice is sweet and she has talent. And she can play her guitar. And her new release The Best Damn Ride is worth listening to.

The first song on the cd is The Way Life Is. The lyrics take a look at why people act the way they do. She questions why the news focuses on trivial events, why people who have so much often make wrong choices. She questions where we put our priorities in life. It shows an artist that is looking around the world and sees what is happening.

And I really enjoyed the song Summers Day Runaway. It’s a song about a relationship. It’s how you feel good in relationship, and it captures the small moments in a relationship. It focuses in on that special thing that we really enjoy about a person. The music is simple, and goes well with the lyrics.

I think I like her music because she sticks with what she knows and sees in life. Her music is honest because she doesn’t try to add a lot of glamour to it. She sticks with acoustic guitar and vocals for the most part. She doesn’t try to overshadow her talent with loads of extras. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t enhance the music with rhythms and other instruments. She just has focus. She understands her strengths. And that is the sign of a musician who will grow to be a good performer in my opinion.

So listen to her music, and let me know what you think of it.

The Quest for the Ultimate Hot Dog 2

Yes, hot dogs are an important part of the summer season, and most of us love them. They are a fun food that you can get really creative with. And there are loads of hot dog stands and restaurants that have done just that. In my quest for the ultimate hot dog I visited The Stand this week.

The Stand is a hot dog stand that serves a variety of dogs. It also sells ice cream. All of the items they sell are well yummy is the only word I can use to describe them. I mean coney dogs and ice cream are a great combo right? The Stand is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and it’s been around for a few years. It’s open seasonally, so you have to get your dogs while the weather is warm.

Like I said they specialize in coney dogs. And they have a good selection of their own creations. When I visited The Stand, I got a coney dog along with a Texas Coney Dog. The coney dog had the normal coney sauce that we all love. But the Texas Coney Dog was awesome. It had bbq sauce along with bacon bits. And they added hot sauce. It was fabulous.

The Stand is primarily a drive thru stand, but you can sit outside at picnic tables. And they do have car shows at the location. So if you’re a fan of classic cars this is a great place to go on those nights.

The dogs are great, and it’s just a fun place to visit. But do they have the ultimate hot dog? Only time will tell with that one.

A Nine Year Old and an Uzi

I heard the news that a nine year old shot and killed her shooting instructor with an Uzi. It made me wonder about how a nine year old and an Uzi wind up together. Uzi’s aren’t the typical gun that you need to teach your child gun safety about. How did this happen?

We often judge the parents of children who forget to take their child with them when they run inside a store on a hot day. We judge parents whose children use drugs. There are all kinds of ways that we judge parents. And I believe that I try to avoid doing that. I don’t know the circumstances around many individuals’ actions. But in this case I am judging the parents. Yes, I’ve said it. This incident never needed to happen.

This isn’t a story about gun control as I have heard in the news. To me it’s a question of good judgment. Why is a child being taught to use a weapon that has no clear use in daily life? This is not a weapon that is used for hunting. It is not a weapon used for personal protection. It is a weapon that is meant to destroy. Why would parents want their nine year old daughter to know how to use an Uzi? I can think of no rational explanation. Did they allow their daughter to use the Uzi because she wanted to? Um, the word no is acceptable. Did they think it would be cute to have pictures of their daughter firing the weapon? Well the picture certainly is being seen by a lot of people, nobody is saying it is cute. Or did they believe that it was like a handgun? There is a reason that most people don’t own them.

So parents of this child, I do feel bad for you. I am sorry to hear that your vacation has had this unhappy event occur while you were relaxing. I’m sorry to hear that your daughter was now knows how realistic gunshot wounds look. While I question your judgment on this event, please don’t spend the rest of your rest of your life beating yourself up. Please don’t play the blame game. Please help your daughter get past this event. And use your experience to make better choices in the future.

Rosie the Maid

Remember Rosie the Maid from The Jetsons? Remember how the show kind of promised us all a robot maid in the future? I’ve been looking forward to this all of my life. I’ve had so many tasks that I wanted Rosie the Maid to complete for me. But I have to admit there is one chore above all that would be given to Rosie immediately. You see I love my cats, but there is a down side to owning cats. You have to change the box.

I’ve never understood how such small animals can create such a mess. The boys aren’t very tidy in the box, and this does seem to frustrate the queen of the house. And she feels she needs to dig her way to China every time she gets in the box. I believe she does this to try and make up for the boys lack of tidiness. But the litter does go a flying when she begins her digging. There is litter flying around in the box, and well of course as it flies some of it goes out of the box. The box is a pain. But it is oh so necessary to maintain because the little queen doesn’t like it if her box isn’t tidied every day. And she lets you know by leaving you surprises.

So you see, I need Rosie the Maid. She would be an essential part of my household. And I hope that the promise of a robot maid comes true soon.

Three Signs You Might Be Being Taken Advantage Of

Have you ever been in the situation where you just didn’t feel right about what was going on? You’re a good natured person, and you want to go with the flow, but things just don’t seem to be right. You feel like you are doing all the giving. Here are a few signs you might be being taken advantage of.

1.       YOU ARE EXPECTED TO CHANGE YOUR PLANS ALL THE TIME

It’s great to be flexible and everyone needs to be flexible. Things occur all the time that require us to be flexible, but if this is occurring on a daily or weekly basis. And the reason you are receiving for having to change your plans is I made a mistake a mistake, and I need you to come help me it’s an emergency. Then the person asking this may be taking advantage of you. There are times when people have crisis in their life and can’t predict what is going to happen. An example is a terminal illness of a loved one. But times like these are the exception and not the rule.

2.       YOU FEEL RESENTMENT

If you are constantly being asked to help someone out, and feel resentful about it. It is possible that you are being taken advantage of. This is a sign that you don’t feel like you’re being treated fairly. You may feel manipulated into doing something that you don’t want to do.

3.       THE INDIVIDUAL YOU ARE DEALING WITH HAS A HISTORY OF TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OTHERS

Do you know that the individual has a history of taking advantage or bullying others? Then this person may be continuing their behavioral pattern with you. This doesn’t mean they are an evil person. It’s difficult for individuals to change their behavior, and even though a person doesn’t want to sometimes individuals fall back on behaviors that have worked for them in the past. It’s just easier to get what they want than it is to change.

So my point is if your instincts are telling you that you are being taken advantage of you probably are it’s up to you to decide what to do about.

Out of This World Bento Boxes

In an effort to eat a little more healthy at lunch time. My friend Laura and spent Sunday afternoon putting together some Bento Boxes. For those of you who don't know Bento Boxes are meals with the food placed in little compartments. Many of them have a theme like our did. This week we made out of this world Bento Boxes. The theme was perfect for the geek girl in both of us, and we had loads of fun being creative with our food, and choosing healthy items to include.

So what do you need to make these tasty and healthy lunches? Loads of vegetables, rice, coconut, fruit, lunch meat, chease cookie cutters, food scissors and knives. Then you need an idea.

Mine is based on Wall-e. I wasn't overjoyed with my space ship, but hey you have to start bento box creativity somewhere don't you?

This is the first one that Laura made. Her's turned out pretty good. Her's was a rocket flying through space.

And here is another one that Laura made. It's a very summery one with lots of flowers.

If you want to get yourself to eat a little more healthy, and pack some lunches. Try making some bento boxes ahead of time. You'll have fun making and eating the food.

DIY Papaya Facial Mask

Everyone knows that a facial mask is an important part of any beauty routine. But ouch they can get so expensive. Homemade facial masks are often the answer to maintaining high beauty standards without spending a lot of money. All you need for this simple DIY papaya face mask are three simple items.

Here’s what you need

½ cup fresh Papaya

1 egg white whipped

1-2 tbsp. honey

These three items contain loads of vitamin A, C and E which is great for your skin. Honey is a moisturizing agent. And egg whites are high in collagen which we all know is great for your skin.

So here’s what you need to do

Mix the three ingredients together and apply them to your face after you have washed it. Allow it to work its facial mask magic for 5 minutes. Then rinse your face thoroughly. It’s that easy.

Spirit of Peace

We all hear the news about all of wars going on in the world. People are asking for peace talks and cease fires. John Lennon told us to Give Peace a Chance. But what so many people don’t realize is peace is actually a state of mind. It’s a lifestyle, and it’s a decision we all make. The spirit of peace is available to everyone; we just have to seek it out a little.

Having a spirit of peace doesn’t mean that you just let individuals walk all over you. It means that you are able to set limits in your life. It means that you have a sense of what is right and wrong. And that you are willing not to do something you know is wrong. Having a spirit of peace allows individuals to let go of things that aren’t that important. And to let others know when you think something is important.

So many of you may be thinking why are you rambling on about the spirit of peace? You see I recently read about this artist named Shannon McGough who over the course of 365 day painted a peace sign on a canvas. That is one peace sign each and every day of the year. It’s her contribution to the 5th annual call for artists through The Peace Project. There are loads of entries, and you can vote on them. So maybe this weekend, you might want to take a break from Pinterest. You might want to take a look at artwork that makes you think, and vote for the one you like the best.

Captain's Temptation

Every time I hear a bag crinkle I can only hope that it is a treat for me. More often than not it is a treat for my pet human. I often try to get her to share with me, but she will not do it. I am willing to share all of my love with her, but she will not share a single  potato chip with me. But I digress.

Today I heard the crinkle of a package. As usual, I let my pet human know that I was interested. She called my name, so I immediately responded. Somehow, my roommate Bobaloo got the message too. Soon my pet human put out a handful of the treats for me. Now these were meant for me, but Bobaloo nosed her way in. I was a little miffed, and knocked her out of the way. Soon my pet human put out some of the treats out for her. She left the bag where I could see it. So when the treats that she put out were gone, I took it upon myself to get the rest of the bag. I dragged it to the center of the floor. It was just too tempting to resist. When my pet human saw this saw she asked what I was doing. I simply replied with the look. You know the one, the look that states how stupid are you anyway; I’m helping myself to treats. When I did this with catnip, my pet human took the container from me. But to my surprise she simply emptied the rest of the bag for us today. It was a delightful end to a tempting situation.

How Did That Happen?

Have you ever read the news, and wondered how did that happen? I recently read that earlier this month an armored car company left a bag of money with $20,000.00 in cash on the roof after it picked the money up from a casino. The truck left the casino with the money on the roof; it went to another company with the money still on the roof of the truck. And then after it left that casino for the highway, the money disappears from the top of the roof. The surveillance tapes verify that it was on the roof for the stops. Now, there are those who are saying this has to be a robbery. And there are those who are saying it’s a fluke.

I thought to myself when I first read the story how did that happen? Somebody didn’t do what they were supposed to. And then I thought to myself. Yes, somebody probably didn’t do what they were supposed to, but it happens all the time. The story reminded me that even though we plan for things in life, something will probably happen and things won’t go as planned. It doesn’t matter how many rules are put in place, there will be a time when someone doesn’t or isn’t able to follow that rule. And the result will be that things have gone wrong.

As for the missing money, I’m one of those people who believe it’s a fluke. I mean who hasn’t left a pop on top of their car and then driven off? And I hope whoever found the money is enjoying it immensely. Who couldn’t use an extra $20,000 they weren’t expecting. And to the casino that lost the money well you win some and loose some don’t you? That’s what you tell the people who game.

So remember the next time things don’t go the way you planned, it’s just part of life. It’ll be a great story that will make people wonder how did that happen.

Supernerd

In recent years it has been cool to be a nerd. It’s fashionable to adorn geek attire. But there was a time when geek was not fashionable. Nerds were teased, and picked on. But somehow they have always been lovable in the movies, so who is the Supernerd of the movies?

Here are the nominees

George Mcfly from Back to the Future Do you remember seeing how wimpy Marty’s dad was in Back to the Future? Remember how the bullies picked on George? Remember how George just didn’t fight back. He was a nerd and like so many nerds he took the abuse that was dished out to him. He just simply lived through it.

C-3PO from Star Wars Yes, C-3PO is everything that is annoying in a nerd. He is smart, and he knows it. He provides way too much information even if it’s needed nobody wants to hear what he says. He offers so much information that often individuals don’t listen to him even though it’s to  their benefit.

Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of The Rings We all know him as Sam. He is gardener, and really doesn’t have a very adventuresome life. He inherited his job from his father, and well he just hangs out at shire at the beginning of the story. But Sam has always had a love for fantastic stories. He is the gardening nerd that ends up replanting forests.

Wayne Szalinski from Honey I Shrunk the Kids Wayne is the nerd who is so involved in the world that he has created that he totally misses what is going on in his real life.  But he is creative, and well kind of lovable to.

So which of these is the supernerd? Or do you have another nominee that should the title.

I Never Noticed That

Every day we go past things. There are so many things we just filter out in life. We are busy thinking about the things that are more important to us. The little problems that are oh so important. You know what will I fix for dinner? I can’t believe that person just said that. Or wow, I really do want a new pair of shoes.

Today was one of those days when I finally woke up and noticed something. I was driving home from work, and as usual I was thinking about all sorts of things. I decided that I didn’t want to make lunch. It just seemed like a hassle. So I decided to visit the local Dairy Queen that was on my way home. When I parked the car to go inside the Dairy Queen, I looked in front of me and saw a field full of color. I mean it was like a rainbow full of colors. Now I knew there was an empty lot there, but I never looked at it before. The lot has been empty long enough that wildflowers had taken over. There were flowers in every color. It was beautiful! It strange how something I never noticed before was actually so beautiful. I picked some of the flowers, and as I was bringing them in the house a huge bumble bee appeared. Apparantly, he thought the flowers were wonderful too.

Here are a few shots of some of the flowers I picked. Let me know if you’ve had an experience with something you never noticed before.

Making Lemonade Out of Life's Lemons

Recently, I became really upset about a situation. The situation was someone told me or at least I thought they told me that they would do something for me. And then when push came to shove the person just didn’t come through. This individual simply ignored my calls for help. I was a little bit miffed. But then I realized, I really didn’t need this person’s assistance, I just thought I did. I could complete the project on my own.

So the first step in making this lemonade taking the lemon which was my friend not cooperating. Now I had to add something water like to the mixture. I had to take responsibility for the part I shared in the problem. This is not always easy to do, but it’s an important part of the lemonade. I had to accept that perhaps I didn’t communicate well with my friend. And perhaps I should not have asked this friend to complete this task. I already knew that this person was a little bit unreliable. It’s unrealistic to put demands on someone you know is unable to do something. So that’s two parts of my lemonade project. The third part of course is add some sugar, I added sugar to this lemon life had given me by deciding that I don’t have to rely on that person for assistance. I simply had to sit down and lay out a plan on how I was going to complete the project without their assistance.

Now all I have to do is sit down and drink the fresh glass of lemonade life has offered me.

Captain’s Sure Proof Method of Obtaining Quality Attention

Yes, I am a cat who loves attention from my pet human. When my pet human is gone, I love to sit around the house dreaming up new ways of getting her attention. My absolute new favorite method is quite an efficient method. For all the attention starved felines in the blog world here is my method that is sure to obtain results.

Felines this is the method I use in order to attain that attention. First I wait until my pet human goes to bed. When she is just about to go to sleep, I pounce on the bed. At first I don’t approach her. I let her think that I simply want to lie on the bed. Then after she has relaxed, I slowly move toward my pet. When I am close I gently place my head under her head near her ear. You must do this slowly in order to not be told to leave. After you have placed your head under your pet human’s ear begin to purr. At first begin to purr softly then build up your volume. Soon you will need to purr more loudly. Soon your pet human will begin to pet you and provide you with the attention you desire.

Please share with me any methods you have of obtaining attention from your pet human.

Old Wives Tail Hair Mask Review

When Old Wives Tail asked if I would review their hair mask, my immediate reply was yes of course I would love to review your hair mask. So what is Old Wives Tail? It’s a company based in England with the goal of providing environmentally friendly, high quality, and of course organic.

I received my package, and I was excited. It tore it open. And the packaging was cute. After opening the outer layer of packaging, the jar was wrapped in plastic. It was a good thing because the jar did leak a little, but not very much. It’s just the danger of shipping hair products overseas. I received the Coco Loco Organic Coconut Oil Hair Mask. Lily from Old Wives Tail had asked me my hair type before sending out the mask. Since my hair tends to get a little dry, she felt this would be the best mask for me.

I opened the jar of Coco Loco, and it smelled minty. This is a plus for me because I really like the smell of peppermint. I stirred the mask up and then followed the directions. This is easy to use. All you do is rub some of the mask into your hands and then rub it into your hair and scalp. Then you wrap your hair in a warm towel for an hour. So don’t plan to go anywhere after you use the mask. It takes some time to do its magic. My scalp began to have the warm tingly feeling that peppermint oil provides. It always makes me feel a little more awake. After the hour is up rinse your hair and wash it. It’s that simple to use.

The result of using this product was soft hair. I couldn’t believe how soft my hair felt immediately. I guess it’s all of the coconut oil, almond oil, and olive oil doing their thing on my hair. My hair which gets tangled fairly easily was easy to comb through, which was an added bonus. So for you girls with dry hair this is a great product that will leave your hair feeling softer.

And there is a bonus to this review.

Five Great Songs For Labor Day

Once again Labor Day will be rolling around, and here are 5 songs that I think reflect the spirit of Labor Day and why.

Allentown by Billy Joel really tells the story of the modern worker. We have been made promises, but nobody seems to be keeping up their end of the deal. While the song doesn’t offer much hope, it does show how many workers feel. They feel left behind by the politicians, businessmen, and the unions.

My Home Town by Bruce Springsteen is a song about how the closing of businesses is towns is killing our small towns. Springsteen’s lyrics talk about how you can see the changes in a small town just by driving through it.

Chain Gang The Pretenders
While this song wasn’t really written for workers, it does fit the theme.  It’s about the loss of a good friend and for many workers in this new economy we’ve lost the stability in our jobs that we once knew.

Working 9 to 5 Dolly Parton
Dolly sings the workers anthem. She tells how hard it is to stay motivated, and how workers are barely able to survive on what they are making. But somehow they manage to keep their dreams.

She Works Hard for the Money Donna Summer
Donna sings about how even though many individuals don’t see a person’s job as important. The job is important to the worker. She sings about an individual who shows up and works hard for not much money. She is unappreciated and overworked, but she knows she’s needed so she goes to work and works hard for the money.

Did I leave out any songs that are fit for Labor Day?

My Name in Lights

I’ve always had some big crazy dreams in life. They always involve something kind of different. This year my brother asked me what I want for my birthday, and I told him a unicorn. He told me unicorns exist, but they are fatter than I think and some people call them rhinos. He sent me money instead of a unicorn this year. I guess he couldn’t locate a rhino or a unicorn on such short notice. The money came in handy, but a unicorn wouldn’t have been a present to remember. But one present I received was totally awesome! I received my name in lights.

My friend Gloria over at Edge of Gloria made it for me, and you can go visit her site to get the full tutorial. It’s worth the visit.

Gloria, thanks for the great present!

Lovekill by Anie

Want to hear a song that will make you want to dance and sing along? Then listen no further Anie's new song Lovekill is the one you are looking for. This song is currently my favorite song that I’ve heard this summer. It just makes me want to dance.

When Anie sent me a copy of their music to listen to I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t provided with much information about the group, except that it is pop music. Hmm, I thought as I listened to Lovekill this definitely has a pop sound. But then I listened to the song Honey, and I realized that the group has more to offer than pop music. It’s a song with a pretty melody that is much more interesting than what you hear on a regular basis. It’s busier than many songs, but I think that is what I like about it.

And then I heard the song Only Ever This it has a slower tempo and it made me feel relaxed. Even though there is part of the song that is a little chaotic. That section of the song reminded me of coming through a rough part of life into something less chaotic. And you realize that the peaceful times are what life is all about.
Fear Losing is the last song that I had the chance to listen to from the group. It starts out with some great acoustic guitar, and it builds. It reminds me of how we enter periods of our life peacefully, but then something happens and we realize that things are changing. We become just a little bit scared because we don’t know what’s going on.

This isn’t simple music, it’s great to listen to, and I’m looking forward to learning more about the group. I’m also looking forward to seeing what future music the group will offer.

Labor Day DIY Party

Labor Day will be here before know it, and for many individuals it’s the last chance for a big cook out during the summer season. So you want to make sure that the decorations are appropriate. Here are a few DIY Labor Day Decorations that I think are fantastic.

First a Labor Day bench. It’s simple but it looks great, and everybody needs extra places to sit at a cook out right? I found the tutorial on Hometalk. It’s one of Geri Veatch’s creations.

This Labor Day solar light is awesome, and you can find the tutorial on h20bungalow.

The DIY Star Spangled Sangria sounds and looks delightful. It’s the perfect drink for Labor Day. The recipe is available on Simply Swider.

Hostess with the Mostess has provided the world with some great Labor Day printables that are perfect for a party.

And of course don’t forget to put together a great Labor Day soundtrack for your cookout.

Whatcha Been Watchin?

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about since I’ve talked about the movies I’ve watched recently, but here are three of my favorite views recently.
When Star Trek into the Darkness came out in the theatres I didn’t get around to seeing it. I know there are those of you who are asking what kind of geek are you? But I finally watched it on video. And like the first new Star Trek film I have mixed feelings. I like the new characters, and I like the new stories. But at the same time I’m not sure that I like some of the new stories. For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, this Star Trek film twists the Wrath of Khan film. I actually really like the new Spock. He is the best of both Vulcan and Earth. But I’m not sure about Kirk. He just seems a little smarter than the original Kirk. I do like that Spock doesn’t die in this movie, and I wonder what will happen with Kirk containing some of Khan’s blood. If you haven’t watched it, make sure you do.

Moonphase is an anime series that is based on a comic book. The characters and feel of much of the comic is cute. But if you look beyond the cuteness the story is a little dark. It’s the story of a young vampire girl. She chooses to leave her master to live with a family. But the master doesn’t want her to leave. Through the course of the series you learn much about the family. It’s not quite your average family. This is a love story, and a story about good vs. evil. Even though it’s a cartoon it’s geared toward a mature audience. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys vampires stories.

Time Traveler is a Japanese sci-fi movie, which takes a from 2010 back to the year 1974 in an attempt to save her mother’s life. The girl’s mother asks her to deliver a message to a boy she met as the girl hunts for the boy; she meets a young man and falls in love. While this story is a sci-fi movie, it’s also a love story. It shows everyday life, and what it is like to make connections with individuals in a short amount of time. This movie is excellent; it’s the best of two different worlds. It’s a sci-fi movie which will appeal to geeks, but it’s also a chic flick which will apply to the girls in the crowd.

So does anyone have any movie recommendations for me?
