I was out and about with loads of plans yesterday, and all of the sudden I started noticing sunflowers everywhere. I decided maybe it was time to change my plans a little and enjoy some of what summer had to offer. And these are some of the sunflowers that I saw.
Before we know it the fall movie frenzy will begin. And there are three movies that every geek girl should see this fall.
The Martian starting Matt Damon is to be released in October. The story involves an astronaut being stranded on Mars. He only has 31 days of the items he needs to survive. And he has no way of contacting NASA. He has to figure out how to create ways to contact NASA and get food. And what will people risk in order to not leave him behind. The story sounds great to me. And hey what geek doesn't have some part of them that wouldn't want to visit the red planet?
The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2
When I first heard about The Hunger Games I wasn't excited. In fact I never saw it in a theater. One of my friends told me I had to see it. I didn't believe her until I watched the movie. And I wished I would have seen the first movie in a theater. I can't wait until the next movie comes out in November. I think part of my attraction to the story is this is kind of thing I can see happening. With reality TV all the rage, this could happen under the wrong circumstances. Katniss is a great character, and I can't wait to see how she leads the revolution against The Hunger Games.
The Force Awakens
What geek doesn't want to see a new Star Wars movie? I mean come on even if it's bad Star Wars it's still Star Wars. I like that the new movie is going to bring back characters from the original movie. And it is also going to bring new characters to the movie world. I don't know about you, but I'm excited.
So what fabulous movies are you all looking forward to this fall?
With children going back to school it's time to look for a healthy alternative to the average sandwich. Something that tastes good, and encourages your children to eat healthy. Cucumber hummus pita sandwiches might be the trick.
Here's What You Need
A Pita Pocket
Here's What You Do
First fill you pita pocket with hummus. Place your cucumber slices in the pocket. Lastly, enjoy this healthy delight.
Did You Know?
Cucumbers may be effective in fighting bad breath? Place a cucumber slice on the roof of your mouth and let me know if it's true.
What are the prerequisites for a great snack? For me they are four fold. One it needs to be easy to snack on. Second it to tastes good. Third it needs to easy to find. And last it needs to be somewhat healthy. I was fortunate enough to find many of these qualities in Epic Snack bars and I decided to share what I think of the bars with my readers.
So here's why I was interested in these snack bars. I wanted a snack to take to work that I could carry in my pocket. I tried pop-tarts, granola bars, and beef jerky. What I found was the first two were too sweet for a snack. And the jerky was too salty. So I was going through Fresh Thyme and I saw these snack bars. I took a look at the ingredients. It contained organic ingredients and the bar wasn't loaded with sugar. So this bar met one of the criteria for a great snack. It was healthy. Next thing about it was it was small and I could carry it to work. So I decided to try it out. I bought a bison, a lamb, a beef, and a turkey bar.
So the real test would come the next morning. I had worked a couple of hours, and I was hungry. I pulled the Turkey Epic Bar that I bought out of my pocket and I opened the package. I took a bite. I expected the snack bar to be chewy like beef jerky. But I was pleasantly surprised when the bar was much softer. It was moist and not all dried out. And I liked that it had a slight sweet taste from the berries that were in the bar. I also found that because it is mainly protein I was a little more full than when I ate other snack bars. This was a bonus.
So far this Epic Snack Bar was a win. Then I went to my local grocery store looking for the snack bars. I couldn't find them. Then I tried another grocery store that was close to my house, and once again there were no Epic bars in stock. I have only found Epic Snack Bars at two stores in my city. So in order to purchase them I need to drive across town.
The Epic Snack met three of the four criteria that I have a great snack. I would recommend trying these snack bars to all of my readers. They taste great, and hopefully you will have an easier time finding them than I did.
It's so difficult to believe that August is almost over. What a month it has been. I feel like I've spent the entire summer working. And well I kind of have. The past few months have been a lesson in patience and endurance for me. I have waited for a change at my job. I have put up with silliness with my work schedule. I have endured doing a job where they demanded that I do the same work as a permanent employee even though I am a temp. I have worked overtime, and had changes in schedules at the last minute. I have been sad and I have gotten angry. But finally a change has come. I am now a permanent employee of the organization.
Over the months I have learned a few things. One I am not really that patient. I have wondered over the past couple of months is this really worth waiting for. Now that the waiting is over maybe it was. It's a lot more money, but I feel as though I have lost a lot of time with people that I enjoy spending time with because of the schedule.
The next thing I have learned is that pushed far enough I will definitely loose my temper. I just couldn't stop myself at times even though I tried.
The other thing I learned is that the people who really are supposed to help you often don't. In fact some of those people who are supposed to help you may take advantage of the situation. And I've learned that there are people who always do the right thing. Different things motivate different people. And I've learned that I'd rather do the right thing by people than treat them poorly. I just feel better about myself when I do this.
I was speaking with a co-worker today, we discussed how handy cell phones are. And then we got to the thing we all know. We are all just a little too accessible anymore. He told me that he refuses to give out his cell phone number to businesses. He stated that he only gave out his home phone number. The reason for this is they just call whenever they want to. It doesn't matter if you are at work or asleep. They just call because they can. He stated that he tells them to leave a message on his home phone. And I thought to myself, you still own a landline phone? I think I only know one other person that still has a landline. And at the moment I kind of missed my landline.
I miss the simplicity of it. I miss that someone has to sit down and really want to talk to me on the telephone. Answering the phone seemed important at one point in my life. It was a way to talk to people I wasn't able to see. I wasn't able to get online and chat with them or simply send a text message. It usually wasn't spur of the moment. You had to put effort into a phone call. So while cell phones are convenient, I miss the days when someone actually took the time to sit down and pick up the phone to call me simply because they wanted to talk to me.
Music to blog by Frankenstein Baby by Mad Jack and The Hatters
Phonograph. Gramophone. Record Player.
Antique piece of attitude.
Whatever it was is not anymore.
It was missing the bottom. Completely. No hinges either; so the lid was nailed into the top. Nailed. Really. You can't see it under the onion skin layers. But I found the nails.
No key for the lock. (That would be a luxury; wouldn't it?)
Not only was it painted this pink-red... it contained screws, nails, Christmas light bulbs and... spark plugs... along with a mini straight edge embedded in old dried up oil.
I don't know why.
Did you know that Soup Chopped are a cost chopping wonder? This Garden in a Bowl Soup Chopped is just that. I had random veggies roaming around my vegetable drawer that needed to be used. My Farm Fresh Box was coming on Friday and I still had a few carrots, a Fennel Bulb, an Onion and a Red Pepper that were crying out for a hearty and Meatless Soup. I can’t wait to see what FF sends me this week!
Fruit Flies are small little flies that live on fruit as adult insects, their eggs and larva. Yuck!
Some time ago I told you about my battle with pantry moths.
That was a long ordeal. This fruit fly solution is so much simpler. It will make you happy!
Founded in 1608, Quebec City has a population of just over half a million and is the capital of the province of Quebec. Old Quebec, the oldest neighbourhood in Quebec City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is surrounded by ramparts. The Citadelle, the oldest military building in Canada and still used by the military, is part of the fortifications that have been designated a National Historic Site of Canada.
Easy Fondant Ghost Cupcakes One Little Project
I love Halloween treats! I know it’s early to start talking about them, but they are so cute and so creative and just so different from what we do the rest of the year, that I just can’t help myself!
These fondant ghost cupcakes are absolutely adorable and they are SO EASY! I love a cute treat that doesn’t take a lot of effort! Make these with some chocolate covered pretzel pumpkins, some mini donut spiders and some pretzel and cheese string broomsticks and you’d have a pretty awesome spread for a Halloween party!
Our craft section in the office room was occupying an Ikea BILLY bookcase in our office room. Last year I wasn't so excellent enough in taking photos and the DIYs were not so perfect from my point of view and now the craft area is a little empty and it has been put in hold for a while as we have a nice toddler running around and when it comes to a jewellery maker craft storage ... This is absolutely dangerous for my toddler.
So there was the Hubs plopped down on the couch, one hand down his pants doing his best Al Bundy impersonation while watching preseason football, When it suddenly occurred to me “Holy crap, it’s almost Fall!”. And as every blogger knows, you gotta stay ahead of the seasonal curve :). Only trouble was that… well… I didn’t have any glamorous projects cooked up. With a need to start decorating the house for fall, but nothing lined up, I decided to revisit one of my favorite projects from last year to see if I could breathe new life into it. And While you will have to be the judge, I feel pretty darn good about the results. (pop’s collar / drop’s mic) . All kidding aside, They’re like…. Super cute and junk! Yay for reboot’s! Enjoy
Isn’t that scary?! Now this one takes a lot for me to put out on the internet, but it is absolutely real life. Messy, messy even though that room is actually clean. I just had NO WHERE to put anything. I honestly did most of my crafting on the floor and I bet some of you know how that experience. The opposite wall (not pictured) is my husband’s desk and office space to do what he wants with. Ok, moving on! Are you ready for this??
