The League and The Lantern

The League and The Lantern is a new book written by Brian Wells. I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of it in exchange for an honest review.

The Story

For some kids sixth grade is tough. Jake is one of those kids that just didn't have a good year so he can't wait for the new school year to arrive. His big chance to get a good start at his new school is coming with the seventh grade sleep over. But it doesn't turn out to be a night of fun and games. It turns out to be 48 hours of survival and adventure. Along the way he makes new friends and he finds out a few things about his family.

What I Liked About This Book

I liked that this book is a well crafted story. It's solid writing. And while it is aimed at middle school children, adults will find it a fun read. The characters are easy to relate to. Anyone who had a difficult year or two in grade school will definitely relate to Jake's desire to move on to the new school. Kids will enjoy this book because Jake and his friends are smart. But they are regular kids. They live ordinary lives, and then they stumble across an adventure. And parents will enjoy that the book encourages the children to form positive relationships with their friends.

Who Should Read This Book

Kids and adults who are fans of adventure stories will really enjoy this book. And I wouldn't be surprised if this book is made into a movie at some point in the future.

Like I said earlier I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. But as always the opinions are all mine.
