It's the 1950's in a small Mississippi Delta town. Martha is a widow who becomes obsessed with the recent murder of her church rector. And she is concerned that there will be no justice in the case of her murdered rector. Martha follows the path to find the truth. And on the way she faces evil.
Martha is character with a strong moral compass. And that is one of the things that makes her so interesting.
What I think
Like I said this book does deserve the recognition it is receiving. It is an entertaining story with interesting characters. The story moves at a fast pace which keeps the reader involved in the story. But it isn't just pure entertainment, the story explores several different issues. It explores evil, hypocrisy and what it takes to stick to your beliefs. It's a really good read.
