Gwendy's Button Box

Gwendy's Button Box is the new book that is co-authored by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar. It's a Stephen King book so of course, I had to read it.

The Story

Gwendy is a young girl who receives a strange gift from a stranger after completing her run up the Suicide Stairs in Castle Rock. She receives a button box that is able to provide some great gifts. Gwendy accepts the gift, and she finds that the box has many things to offer. It can provide fabulous gifts or it can provide some of those gifts we would rather never receive. It's a big responsibility for a young girl. Will Gwendy rise to the occasion?

What I Think

I liked this book. I liked that this book. Some gifts come with a price. And Gwendy is a good recipient of the box. She takes her responsibility serious. She accepts the gifts it gives, and she finds out just what the consequences can be if she uses the box without thinking. I like that this book encourages young adults to think through their decisions. Gwendy isn't perfect, but she learns from her mistakes. And each time she is presented with a decision to make they become more sound. It's a good thing to teach individuals. I also like that while there is some violence in the book, it isn't crazy violence. There is a fight where Gwendy defends herself. And of course it wouldn't be a King story without a weird destruction occurring.

This book is fun to read, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes stories that are a bit twisted.
