Pat Martino East

I have to admit, I am not very knowledgeable about jazz. I only know a couple of the big names. And then that is it. When I was looking for something new to listen to I just kind of picked the name Pat  Martino and his CD East. It isn't a new CD in fact it dates back to 1990. And Martino isn't a new musician. I just never listened to any of his music in the past. And I have been missing out.

The CD cover stated that he had gone through a lengthy illness, and he had to restart his career. This really sparked my interest. So many musicians struggle to get going and never make it. It has to be doubly difficult to start again. But he did, and I'm glad.

When I went to his website, I found that he had lost his memory after brain surgery. Imagine that happening to you.

But what did I like about the music, The title track made me think of a trip to the East. And even though Martino is a guitarist, not all of the music centers around the guitar. The piano and all of the instruments are heard in every piece. So he really does work well in a group of musicians. And Park Avenue Petite was my favorite song on the CD. So listen to the music, and let me know what you think of it.
