The Good Neighbor

We all complain about our bad neighbors. The neighbors take action when someone moves into the neighborhood, and just doesn't comply with the rules. But what makes the good neighbor.

First, they are not overly nosy. There is a fine line between being aware of what goes on at your neighbors home, and knowing everything that goes on in their home. Good neighbors are aware of your routines, but they don't come visit every morning.

Second, they communicate with you. Recently, my neighbor was leaving for work very early in the morning. She saw someone walking across my backyard in the dark. This is a little bit unusual. She called me to let me know what she saw. It turned out that it was me walking across the yard. I had taken out the trash in the middle of the night. But what if it had been someone out to cause problems. Neighbor of the week award goes to her.

And lastly, they let the little stuff slide. Yes, if there are weeds a foot tall, that is a problem, but if the grass is a little taller than you like, let it go. Sometimes life just happens, and you can't get things done the way you need to. I work nights so I don't know what happens at my house in the middle of the night. My neighbor was the one who let me know last year. You have raccoons in your attic. That is one good neighbor.
