I'm Not Sure How I Feel About That

The other morning a coworker told me the big news of the moment is Charles Manson died. At first I thought finally. And then I thought that's awful. And then I realized I don't know how I feel about that. And that's what I told her.

As I thought about it more, I thought how unfair it seems that his victims lives were cut short and he lived into his eighties. I thought about how almost all of my life Manson was a living picture of evil.

I thought about how sad it is to spend most of a life in prison. I thought about the other participants in the crimes he masterminded. I thought about sometimes it doesn't matter if you are sorry about your actions you still have to suffer the consequences.

And I wondered how it is that someone like Manson could never feel bad for the pain he caused. And then I thought what a waste of a lifetime.
