Three Easy Ways To Care For Vintage Fabrics

Vintage fabrics are wonderful. The patterns are so much softer, and the fabrics are delicate. But they can be a little difficult to care for. You don't want to ruin those vintage treasures. So here are three ways to deal with those thrifty fabric finds.

Woolite Is Your Friend

Yes, this simple item that can purchased at most stores is one of your best friends when you are working with delicate fabrics. You use cold water and air dry the items. The Woolite should help soften the fabric.

Bleach Is Not Your Friend

Don't pour bleach directly onto fabric. You always need to dilute it if you decide to use it. Keep in mind the bleach may cause whites to yellow. And if the material is old it may disintegrate when bleach is used on it. It has happened to me before, so be careful with your bleaching. You don't want to loose your favorite new item.

Nature May Be Your Friend

An old time way of removing stains from table linens is to lay them outside on the grass before sundown and let the dew soak in overnight. It is said the dew will draw out the stains and the sun will finish bleaching them clean the next day. I haven't tried this one, but I will next spring.
