Trivia Of The Day

Everyone needs a little trivia in their lives. We all need a little conversation piece that is way over the top. Here’s some for you trivia lovers out there.

Horse and Carriage

The first baby carriage was made in 1733 by William Kent, an English architect. A miniature version of a horse drawn carriage, this invention was hooked up to a small animal, such as a goat or dog, so the child could enjoy a ride.

Poverty Revealed

Through his characters, nineteenth century English author Charles Dickens revealed what it was like to be poor in Victorian England. He is known for classics as Oliver Twist.

Sing a Song

Male grasshoppers sing to attract a mate. To produce their song, they rub their lower fore wings together. The singing of grasshoppers is known as stridation.

So there are three pieces of trivia you can pull out whenever you need them.

Happiness Is Mandatory

We live in a world where everyone is seeking happiness. We hear all different ways to bring about happiness. But what if happiness was mandatory?

Imagine a world where we couldn’t express feelings of anger. Imagine not being able to say we feel sad when someone important to us passes away. Would we really be happy if we never experienced all of the other emotions that life has to offer?

If happiness was mandatory would we truly be happy?

Three Ways To Add Pizzazz To Your Decorating

Sometimes you just need a little different look in the room around you. And it needs to be low in price as well as easy to accomplish. Here’s three super easy ways to make a decorating update to any room.

Layering

You know it looks great with clothing. But layers also add a little extra to a room. You can prop framed pictures or mirrors against a wall, overlapping them slightly. Top a stack of books with a knick knack. Or drape a throw over the arm of a chair. This will provide your room with a little depth.

Big

Adding a large mirror to a room can actually make a room look larger. You’re adding loads of natural light. And these mirrors can be picked up at garage sales or thrift stores.

Flowers

This time of year you can walk out into your garden and find the simplest method of adding flare to a room. While vases are nice, don’t forget you have other items in your home that will make great vases. Teacups and bowls are a fun change of pace.

So let me know how you spruce up a room.

Wednesday's Thoughts

This week has been busy as usual. It has been full of activities. But none of them feel productive this week. There are things I need to do, and there are things I want to do.

I sit down and think what do I want to do first? But I cannot make up my mind. I think I can get something important completed, but I don’t want to. All I can think is I want to take a nap. But then I think that napping would be a waste of time.

Then I think I could read for a little bit. And I realize that will probably just make me more sleepy. I don’t want that. Then I realize I really do have to get ready for work. And I think I can’t wait for a day off when I can read a book and take a nap.

Would You Like Us To Text You?

Have you gone to the store recently? The clerks are friendly. And they always ask me that important question. Would you like us to text you with information about upcoming sales? My reply was simple. No,thank you. I already fell for that once with email.

You're The Star Blog Hop

Have you ever been faced with a choice? Not just any choice, but it's a good choice you have to make. I have one of those coming up. At least I think I do. There is going probably going to be a position where I could have the weekends off. And it will be a job that I like. I mean I can do things on the weekend with my friends. It's been awhile since that has happened. At first it seemed like a definite. But then I realized, there are a lot of things I actually enjoy about have weekdays off. So I am thinking about what I am going to do. And hopefully I will make the right choice.

Those Darn Critters

I have been working hard on my garden. So I was really disappointed the other morning when I went out into my garden area. The gerber daisies I had nursed back to health were trampled. And the insult to beat all insults was the crown I placed in the garden was knocked over, and those darn critters pooped right beside it. Are they trying to tell me that I am not the queen of my garden?

Creative Works In Process

I thought it was time to share with everyone a couple of the creative projects I've been working on. In case you didn't know it. I really like sugar skulls. So I found this paper mache bear a couple of years ago. And I finally got the project going. He isn't finished yet, but he is going to be adorable isn't he?

And then there are all of those clothes I have. I found the perfect patch for a jean jacket. I plan to add some other things, but it's gonna be so cute for fall.

Let me know what you think, and what have all of you been creating recently?

I Only Missed Eight Days

I was speaking to a coworker the other day. He is a new permanent employee. It’s a big deal because he gets all the benefits and the temporary jobs are crappy. He says that he only called in eight times last year.

Another coworker heard this and exclaimed eight times? He seemed surprised and asked is that a lot? The reply was yeah you should have been fired for attendance issues.

I told him don’t call in anymore. He said I thought that wasn’t that often.

I thought how can this be? How can a 25 year old not know that showing up for work is actually ninty percent of his job? If you know the answer can you let me know?

Making Get Togethers Easy

This time of year everyone is having get togethers with family and friends. Here’s a few simple things you can do to make them a little easier.

Simple Coolers

Summer is the time when fruit is plentiful. Use it to make tasty fresh and cool simple drinks. Grab some lemons to make lemonade, or you can use strawberries and blueberries along with some coconut water to make a healthy drink for everyone at your get together.

Tags

Ever been to a party and you’re confused about which drinks are yours, so you just go get another glass to drink out of. Reduce the odds of this happening by picking up some rubber bands, Manila tags and a sharpie. This will allow guests to write their names on the tags and mark their drinking cup.

Easy Bake

Terra cotta is an easy baking container. And a new one is extremely cheap. And it will add a decorative flair to your get together. Add some olive oil, olives and feta cheese. Bake this mixture at 350 degrees in the oven until the cheese turns brown. You can serve it in the terra cotta container.

Try these out and let me know how they work for you.

How To Ruin A Diet

Have you ever really tried to change your eating habits? I mean the doctor is always saying you need to eat healthy and exercise. Sometimes it seems like a waste of time to go to the doctor because they just repeat themselves over and over. They are kind of like a broken record if you want to know the truth. But after a visit to the doctor, I decided I need to do at least some of what he says.

I begin eating healthier. I am eating salads and cutting back on the fatty foods. I am proud of myself. I am doing so well. Then I go out to eat with a friend. I plan on staying away from fried food. Then my friend  says the thing that is a sure fire way to ruin a diet.

Wanna share some cheese fries?

You're The Star Blog Hop

Man, the heat has been turned on outside. It is over ninety degrees. And well it is making me wish for a swimming pool. I keep thinking wouldn't it be great to just dive into a cool pool of water? And for some reason swimming pools are just part of summer. It reminds me of all those summers as a child spending time at a pool. But now I know that I really should wear a lot of sunscreen to avoid the sunburns I got as a child.

The Sky Has Bright Fluffiness Floating Through It

Have you ever looked up and saw that the sky has bright fluffiness floating through it? Today I looked up and noticed that fluffiness. It was what I needed.

The past couple of days I have been with some situations that have frustrated me. People in my personal life, and people I work with. For some reason even though I know it isn’t that important life has frustrated me.

But today I looked up, and remembered that life is beautiful. And I need to remember to enjoy all it has to offer.

Today I am Thankful For

I realized it is time for me to share some of the great things in my life. Someone told me recently that I was rich because of the money I earn at y job. They were partially correct. I am rich in many ways, and I am thankful for all of them.

I am totally thankful for all the beautiful flowers in my garden. My hard work is paying off, and I do have a colorful garden. And somehow there are a few surprises that have come my way in that garden. I had a few more plants survive that long period where I didn't do much out there. Lilies are an awesome plant. They are total survivors.

I am thankful for all of the individuals over the course of my life who have encouraged me to take chances. Even if they are kind of foolish ones. You never get anything in life if you don't try do you?

I am thankful that my dad in particular taught me to be a positive thinker. He encouraged us to say positive things so that we would receive positive things. If you haven't tried it you should it does work.

Thrift stores, I love them. How would I do anything in life without them. I love shopping in bulk. But the flipside is that I am able to give back a lot quicker because I find so man fabulous things in those shops.

I am so thankful that the colonoscopy experience is over for awhile. While it wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to me. It wasn't the most fun thing either.

What are you thankful for today?

Revive Don’t Replace

Garbage is an issue. We live in a world where it might be less expensive to buy something new than to fix what you have. If you have any doubts about this go see what people put in their trash.  Here’s a few ideas to reduce that trash heap, and maybe save yourself a few dollars.

Them shoes

Your favorite pair of shoes are looking a little worn. Don’t get rid of them just yet. It is possible to take those run down soles to be reconditioned. It’s way cheaper than a new pair of boots. And you get to keep wearing those comfortable boots. Another trick you can use is to rub a banana peel on the leather. It’s a cheap way to shine your shoes.

Coats and Jackets

We all have a favorite, but one day you just get tired of the way it looks. You can replace the buttons on it to give it a new look, or you can try those patches that are so popular right now.

Shirts

Have you ever had a favorite shirt that just starts to look grungy? There’s those stains on the armpits. You can get rid of those discolorations by combining one part Castile soap with two parts hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit then soak it in cold water for an hour. Then you can send it through the was. The shirt will look fresh again.

What ideas do you have to revive items instead of replacing them.

The Gerber Daisies

Has anyone had the experience where they want more flowers for their garden, but you don’t want to break the bank to get it? That was me the other day. I decided to go to Lowe’s because they always have a clearance rack with flowers. And I scored big. They had hanging baskets of Gerber Daisies. The plants had already bloomed once. But real gardens know that all you have to do is dead head the flowers. So these are some of the flowers I picked up.

You’re The Star Blog Hop

A new week has rolled around. I have been waiting for this week for the past few weeks. There has been anticipation, and it finally arrived. They finally hired new people where I work. Yep, we have all been working overtime for quite a while. Yes, it's nice to have some extra money occasionally, but get real. I want the extra time. So relief has arrived and I am so happy about it.

My Dating Profile Says

Have you ever read people’s dating profiles? Some of them are humorous, and some of them are downright sad. I have this friend who used to go through sites and pick apart dating profiles for fun. That’s not quite my style, but I do have to admit reading profiles can be entertaining.

Here’s a couple of profiles I’ve read recently that caught my eye and why.

I hope your standards are lower than mine.

At first I thought it was cute. But then I thought there may be a powerful message in this profile. I thought this guy is looking for someone who will give him everything he wants, and he wants to give little in exchange. This may not be a healthy relationship. It’s a pass.

Run, Just Run, Now!

If you’re looking for some sort of adventure this might be the profile to check out. If you are looking for something less complicated follow the writers advice.

Searching for my next ex

This guy says exactly what he is looking for. Yeah, he is looking for a short term relationship. If you want something else move on.

Honestly, I don’t have a dating profile. It just seems like to much work for me right now.

Hobnobben Film Festival

I’ve always wanted to attend a film festival. I always thought it would be Cannes or Sundance, but my community hosts a film festival each spring. The Hobnobben Film Festival takes place each June in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It’s only been running for three years, but as we all know, new can be pretty good.

The festival needed volunteers. You got a t-shirt and a free movie ticket in exchange for a shift. I thought that’s a good deal. So I got my shirt and ticket. And I enjoyed the festivities.

My favorite film of the festival was actually a short film. The title was making a movie. In less than ten minutes the creator of this film showed just how frustrating it is to make a quality film. And it was funny. I also liked a film called Antiquated. It was a short film that showed just how a movie can be scary without the use of gore.

Of course there were loads of other films to see, but I had to work.

So film nerds make sure you check out the Hobnobben Film Festival you won’t be disappointed.

June Goals 2018

It's a week into June, and I haven't posted any goals. So it's time. Here is a look at what I accomplished last month. And a look at what I want to accomplish next month.

My first goal for May was to finish that DIY dress. I did it! If You check out my post The Unicorn Dress. You can see the DIY project. But here is the finished project.

I also wanted to go through some items for a yard sale. This was accomplished, and I even got them in a friends sale. Isn't that awesome! The goal was accomplished! Yay, me!

I also went on a great cemetery crawl. We went to the National cemetery in Marion, Indiana. I went with a friend who is also a huge fan of cemeteries, and she is kind of a history buff too. If you are ever in Marion you should check out the cemetery. There is a great civil war monument there.

I did read more than I was the month before, but not as much as I wanted to. Life just gets so busy sometimes. But progress was made.

June Goals

Goal number one is to get that car cleaned out. How does it get so trashed? I mean really I do empty things out of it, but all of the sudden it looks like I am living in it. This month. I want to get it cleaned out, and of course I really need to vacuum and clean the windows. It's going to happen.

The second goal is to finish that Teddy Bear I started working on. It is getting there, but not quite what I want yet. It will be adorable when it is finished. And I need it for an upcoming sale.

Goal number three is edit my blog. I need to do some serious editing. I mean I need to update some posts, and the pages. It's gonna happen this month.

There is a museum I really want to visit. I visited it a few years ago. But I want to go again. It's a cool place, and well I need to make a return. This is the month!

So what are all of you planning to do this month?

Saving The Bees

I came home the other day, and there was a dead bumblebee on the sidewalk. I thought to myself there’s one less bee in the world. I wondered if that lone bee knew just how important he was to all of u. In case you’ve had your head buried for the past few years, the bee population is declining much faster than it should be. There are lots of theories about the cause. It all seems fairly complicated. And I don’t think anyone really knows why. But one thing everyone agrees on is that it is a problem.

Since most of the property east of the Mississippi is owned by private individuals, it is up to the general population to help out those little busy bees that pollinate our food supply. The easiest thing for all of us to do is to plant some flowers. It’s no secret that bees love flowers. They need the nectar from the flowers to survive. Even if it’s a few hanging baskets with flowers you’re doing your part.

I know many individuals loathe dandelions. So they pour chemicals on their lawns to kill them off. But it isn’t just those dandelions you are taking out. You are also killing off bees. Just cut back on the harsh chemicals. It could save a bee.

And since fall is lasting longer don’t forget to plant some of those flowers that blossom in the fall.

Put some of these into action and you could save the bees.

Today I Want To

Today I want to go back to bed. I feel tired and I want to sleep. And I could go to sleep right now. But I can’t. I have to keep that appointment I set.

Today I want to stay home. But once again I cannot. There is that paycheck I need to earn.

Today I want to go for a long hike in the woods. But I think my feet are sore so I just want to prop them up.

Today I want to ask my neighbor kid to mow the lawn. But that involves going over to their house and I just want to rest my feet.

Today I have a list of tasks I want to accomplish. But I realize I don’t have enough time before I go to work.

It seems like there are a lot of things I want to do today, but somehow I just won’t be able to. Maybe I’ll be able to do more of what I want tomorrow.

You're The Star Blog Hop

What do you do with an extra two hours? We often think that two hours isn't much time, and in a way it isn't, but when it's taken out of your day, it throws your whole daily routine off. That's what has happened to me this week. Friday and Sunday I had to work an extra two hours. I got home late, and I felt rushed to get everything I planned completed. In fact, I had to cancel some plans. But I realized that even though I don't think I accomplish much in those two hours each day, I really do. And hopefully I get off work on time tomorrow so my life isn't so rushed.
