Guest Blogger Daphne

Gloria Diaz

Hi! My name is Daphne. Actually, my full name is Daphne Moon Shadow Diaz, but you can call me Daphne. I am a purebred Silky Terrier. My mom has never registered me, for some reason. I look like a Yorkshire Terrier on steroids. That’s how my mom likes to describe me. I’m just a little bit bigger than a Yorkie. I am a companion animal, but I also like to kill mice. I was originally bred to get rid of vermin. I like the way they squeak when I kill them!

I guess I am an old dog. I’m 12 years old, but I am still very active and love running around in the yard. Me and Mommy go for walks almost every day. I have a nice big yard to run around in. I also listen carefully for burglars and animals, and I bark when I want them to stay away!

Mom buys me treats and will heat up hot dogs for me at night. I have the run of the house! I can jump up on the couch if I want, and I sleep with Mommy in her bed. Sometimes she will cook things on the grill and we will sit outside and wait for them to be done. I like being outside with Mom.

Walkies are pretty much my favorite thing ever. I hate bathies, and brushies. I also hate when Mom clips my toenails.

For a long time, it was just me and Mommy. She worked a lot, and I was by myself a lot. She bought me a big teddy bear to play with, and I have a lot of fun with him. Then, Mommy brought home a tiny bundle of black fur. I had no idea what it was! Mommy had to give this black bundle a bottle. She explained it was a kitty who didn’t have a good mommy, and was starving and couldn’t see because her eyes were crusted shut. She said we have to be nice to kitties who don’t have good mommies. I was afraid of her at first, but we get along pretty well. Sometimes we fight, but other times we play and sometimes give each other kisses. It was a little bit hard, because for a long time it was just me and Mommy, but we still go on walks and hang out in the yard. But now I have someone to chase around when Mommy isn’t home. Mommy doesn’t work as much, and I am happy because she is home more.

What's For Lunch?

Lunch today was Salmon Patties with melted cheese and lettuce. Simple and easy that's my cooking motto.

All you need is a pound of deboned and flaked salmon. Add a cup of bread crumbs. Beat two eggs and mix them into the mixture. Add some tarragon and some salt. Coat a pan with some olive oil spray, warm it up over a medium heat. Make patties out of the salmon mixture. Put it in the pan and fry until golden brown.

I hope everyone has a great day today!

Friday Wish

My Friday wish is that all the money spent searching for Jimmy Hoffa would magically appear in my bank account. Wouldn't that be awesome? I mean come on he's been missing like over 35 years and they are still looking for him?

But here are a couple of things I'm more likely to get.

Pink Skull Candy Cups, Pink Pirate Party, Pink Skull Party, 12 Pcs

I love these! The perfect candy holder for any pirate themed party! GiggleBees shop on etsy has them. They are adorable!

Mini Altered Notebook with Hot Pink Skull

And how can you go wrong with skull notebooks? They are the perfect party favor for that pirate party. It's in Kawaii Sakura's shop on etsy.

My Pet Human Reply

I’m going to take a giant cat leap here at being a guest blogger on Heidi's Wanderings. My name is Kaffy and I too have a “new” owner. More precisely I am back with my original owner after a few years of living in a crowded small apartment with several others and only 2 human pets. What a mess that turned out to be. No more hippie commune fantasies for me.
Anyway, the question was raised by Captain about how to train our pets. I know we love and cherish them, and they are (or at least their hands are) extremely useful tools, but frankly, human pets aren’t all that smart. The trick is repetition. Endless, mind numbing repetition.
It’s OK. Don’t feel bad about it and, no, you are not abusing your pet. They NEED to hear things over and over to learn them.
I mean have you ever had to stand by the door and meow continuously while your pet wanders aimlessly from room to room? We all have. What can they be thinking ?  Then finally the pet catches on and opens the door. Do not feel bad about this, it does not harm them or annoy them – they are just often oblivious to even the most important cues in their environment.
Not to belabor the point, but sometimes I have to repeat myself so often I am practically screetching before my pet notices that the bottom of the food bowl is visible. I mean, I couldn’t live without my pet (OK – I could), but I like her and I have learned to accept that intelligence is not one of the human virtues. Hands are a human virtue.
And, as an aside, does anyone understand why they keep stepping on us?
They have the entire world at their disposal except for the tiny spot where we are and they still step on us. Just another small reminder that pets are – well – pets, not cats.
Sometimes I think pets are a reminder that life is not just all about us. It’s sort of about them too. Well, probably not, but it’s a pleasant and harmless thought. It mostly crosses my mind when I am napping on them. Pets make great furniture

The thing I want most today is a good nights sleep. And to tell Kaffe thanks for posting.

Perfect Picture

Ohhh, the sun is peeking out. It’s time to get pictures of that dress for etsy. I run and get the camera. I am so excited. The natural light is perfect for this dress. I point the camera, and shoot. And the sun hides. I frown and put the camera down.

Wait, there it is again. My frown turns upside down. “Move kitty, move. I don’t want to take a picture of you.”  It’s still there, Thank God! Snap! The rubber band that holds the camera on the tripod breaks. I hang my head down because the sun is gone.

Brightness! I can’t believe it! Surely, the third time is the charm. I scramble to get the camera. I turn the camera on, and it shuts off. Hmmm, the battery is dead. Perhaps, today isn’t the day to get the perfect picture of that dress after all.

Sleeveless Vintage Belted Dress

Add some blue, add some green, add some white and what do you get? This dress. I just really like the color combination.

Slow Down

Since the weather is starting to cool down a little I decided that I wanted to make some soup for lunch. Not Campell's or Progresso, but the real thing. And this was my lunch.

Cheddar Broccoli Soup

I bet your lunch was nowhere as good as mine. This is so easy to make, and everybody will think you worked hard. What you need is Butter(yes, I said butter), Milk, Cheese, and Broccoli. First throw a quarter of a stick of butter in a pan. Let it melt, and throw in the broccoli. Pour in a couple of cups of milk, bring it to a low bowl. Then dump in a couple of cups of shredded cheddar cheese. Cook it until the cheese melts. Is it heart healthy? No, but butter is really the key. And eat some oatmeal the next morning to help absorb some of that fat you ate.

I've often found that listening to the right music will result in great food. So today's perfect song was Slow Down by Jack Earls. Hey rockabilly is just fun music that gets you moving.

I'm Just Being Honest

I was out and about today, and I overheard an employee ask one of their co-workers if they had completed a certain paperwork task. The co-worker responded "No, but I have the instructions if you need them." The employee responded with "I'm just being honest, I wanted an example of how to do it not the instructions." The co-worker responded with, "Thanks for the honesty." I just love the people in life who know what they want, and they aren't afraid to ask for it.

Things I Liked Today

I was thinking about things I have liked about today.

1. I saw a PT Cruiser with eyelashes over the headlights. It always makes me smile.
2. I liked the way the fabric I was cutting felt against my skin.
3. I saw someone wearing a bright orange shirt, and she actually looked good in it. That's not the norm.
4. I liked wondering about how the folks at the community garden are going to dress their scarecrow next year. This year it was in a red prom dress. I love their sense of humor.
5. I liked that there are big enough Star Wars fans in the world that would actually go to Tunisia and restore the Lars Homestead. Check out this video!

These guys actually did it! That's commitment. And a big thank you to you guys from a huge Star Wars fan.

Here's the link if you want to learn more about the project.

My Pet Human

Captain, guest blogger

My Pet Human

My name is Captain, and it is late at night my pet human is sleeping. While my pet human is sleeping, I thought I would take the chance to write about my life with this human. Her name is Heidi. She is not my first pet.

My first pet human was name Billy. Billy was a good and loving pet, who provided me with treats. He was home most of the time, and he provided me with a lot of attention.  While I lived with him I developed a taste for tuna water. I still love tuna water. My first pet human was ill, and he died. This brought great sorrow into my life. I do miss my pet Billy.

But soon after Billy died, I moved into my current pet’s home. It was a bit of a change first off Heidi was not home much. We had to do something about that. After a few months, Heidi began staying home more, and she mentioned “finding a different job” frequently. This pleased me. The more she stays home the more often the food bowl is filled. I have trained her well. Soon she began carting in loads of items. They were fun to sit in, but she also began mentioning something about Fat Cat Fat Quarters. This offended me, because I am not fat. I am big boned! And then she said something about Real Gone Cat Clothes. I have no intention of being gone. This behavior is disturbing. But I usually overlook it because Heidi does provide us with good treats. She even provides the beloved catnip. Oh, she is the best pet on those days.

I am teaching Heidi some tricks. The most recent one is putting her hand on me, and petting me when I look at the hand. There has been mixed success with this trick. That human does have a mind of her own.

I hear movement in the other room, so I must end this writing session. I do not want my pet human to know that I talk about her to others. But please be sure to let me know how your pet humans are doing. Do you have any tips on training a human to pet you with a mere glance?

Woke Up, Got Out of Bed

Woke up, got out of bed, fell down and cracked my head. Yep, that's how I started my day. Went to the kitchen boiled some water. Put a green tea bag in the boiling water. Decided to spice it up. Put a cinnamon stick, and little bit of orange juice in. And now the day was going much smoother. I highly recommend this if your day doesn't start right. Fortunately, my day did run much smoother than the way it started. But ohhhh, those early morning headbangs can put you in a sour mood. And it can take alot of work to get out of that mood.

Last but not least, if your bored tonight. Check out the movie Dessert Flower. The story of Waris Dirie's walk from nomad Africa to supermodel.

What do you get when you drive around looking for something to take pictures of?

You probably expected a picture of some flowers or trees or something really beautiful. Nope, I decided to learn how to take some pics in the back of a grocery store. Why? There was nobody there. I came home and messed around with it on some photo editing program, and this is what I wound up with. I just love the monkey in this. He's got such a crazy little look on his face. Let me know what you think.

You Can't Be Sad After You Play a Ukulele

While I was visited a friend today, she broke out her ukulele. And then played me a song. When she finished her song, we discussed many things about ukuleles, and she informed me "You can't be sad after you play a ukulele." And I have to add you can't really be sad after you listen to someone play a ukulele. Most of the songs people play on ukulele's are fun sing along songs that just make you feel good. So to me the ukulele is the ultimate feel good instrument.

Here's the ultimate in ukulele playing though. If you haven't listened to him play before. You will be astounded at the things he can do with a ukulele.

His name is Jake Shimabukuro and he can play the ukulele. And George Harrison would be delighted with this version of his song.

Did you know George Harrison taught Tom Petty to play the ukulele?
It's true!

I wandered out into my yard this morning so I could use that natural morning light to get some photos. The hour after the sun comes up is supposed to be the greatest to take pictures with. So since I've decided to learn how to take some photographs, I decided this morning I would try the morning light. I walked into my backyard to see if there was anything interesting to photograph. And low and behold the squirrel appeared. The squirrel and I normally are at war. I pick up the acorns that are laying around, and he digs up my tulips bulbs. He's gone as far as throwing acorns at me, when I'm out working in my garden. But this morning I turned around and there he was. I was looking for something to photograph, and it was the gardener's nemesis. We stared at each other for a couple of moments. Then I slowly put my camera up to my eye, and snapped a picture. We continued to stare at each other for a couple of moments. Soon he turned and went to the other side of the tree. It was a truce in our little war. We finally agreed that every once and awhile we could be out in the garden together without anything happening.

Ahhhhh! It's 3:22!

That's 3:22 AM! That's what I thought when I woke up this morning. The Ahhhhhh was due to my alarm not going off like it was supposed to at 2:30 AM. Yep, that's when I rise and shine. 2:30 in the morning so I can get to work on time at 4:00 AM. So I threw on some clothes, brushed my teeth, jumped in the car, and drove to work. It was a miracle! I made it to work on time. And it was a good thing too. We were swamped with work today. If I would have been late, I never, and I mean never would have caught up the work I had to do.

Most people say I'd hate getting to work at 4AM, but I really love it.

Great things about working 4AM to Noon.

1. When most people on complaining about their workday at lunch, my workday is OVER.
2. I get more done on my days off. I sleep late for a couple of hours on my days off, a couple of hours late is 4:30 or maybe 5:30. And it really is easier to get things accomplished early in the morning. There are way fewer distractions. Like the phone!
3. I see the sun come up every day that I work! Sunrises are awesome!
4. If I need to set an appointment. It's no problem! I get off work at noon. I have an entire afternoon free.
5. There is no traffic on my work commute. Well other than Saturday morning. And you'd better be careful on Saturday mornings. The extra traffic is due to people celebrating TGIF.

Hope you enjoy this video!

The sky grew grey, the wind began to howl, and I flipped on a light so I could see what I was reading. Then I heard a an extremely loud POP! I immediately noticed the light went off. And I thought to myself, the power must be out. Followed by another thought of I hope this isn't off for as long as it was the last time the power went off. (It went out for a day and a half earlier this summer.)

But thank God for those AEP repairman, who came rumbling down the road in their repair truck. They soon had the lights turned back on. Woohoo! Everyone give their local power company repair men a hug for me today, because they are the heroes for my day!

And on if it wasn't for those repairmen you wouldn't be able to read my list of thing I want for the day.

But I Thought I Was a Supermodel?

Since I started a store on etsy with vintage clothes, I've found that women used to be a little smaller than they are now. And I believe mannequins used to be smaller too. It's been a little bit of a challenge getting photos of some of the items. They don't seem to fit on the mannequin. So I decided to ask one of my more petite friends if she had a dream of becoming a supermodel. Her reply was, "But I thought I was a supermodel?" So while Jill Sobule may wanna be a supermodel, my friend already knows sees herself as a supermodel. Gotta love that attitude!

And while I would love to play the song I Wanna Be a Supermodel, by Jill Sobule, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to. Copyright stuff you know.

Is This Where I'm Supposed to Be?

I arrived at work this morning like I was supposed to. And soon another person comes in to work. She asks me "what are you doing here?" I told her that the supervisor told me that I was scheduled all this week at this time. We looked at the schedule, and I was where I was supposed to be. This made me really happy because it was quite early in the morning. I would have become quite grumpy if I got out of bed for nothing. She called the main office, and asked "do you guys know where I'm supposed to be?" After a couple of minutes, she decided that she was where she was supposed to be. This was a big relief to me. Yesterday was a holiday so there was loads of extra work for the day, and I had extra help for the day. It was a fantastic way to start my work day.

Since everybody needs a little something to brighten their day. Check out this video on youtube by Hi-Fidelity Quartet. The trekkies that read this will really love this. They have appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. If you enjoy parodies then you will really like this group. The link to their website is below.

And since I was watching the video. I decided to find a couple of other Star Trek items that were fun, or that could be added to a trekkies wishlist.

Star Trek Cat - 8 x 8" art print - kitty dressed up as starfleet captain Picard on the bridge of the enterprise

This is in geeky pet on I started to laugh when I saw this. But it a great piece for a Star Trek fan that loves cats. Check out her store on etsy to see this picture, and other artwork by Alana McCarthy. It should bring a smile to your face too.

Live Long and Prosper Glitter poster

And this poster would be great for any trekkies wall. It's available on in KaraKreative's shop. Follow the link below to visit her shop.

And even though it isn't a Star Trek dress, I want this dress!

Easy Chocolate Covered Apricots

I don't know about you guys, but I love dried apricots. They are sweet and a little bit tangy, and that is a mixture I love. Maybe it's because we always had them around the house while I was growing up. Maybe it's because my mom baked with them. Maybe it's because I always remember my father eating them. I think they taste great, and they obviously bring up positive memories for me. And after I thought about it for awhile, I decided to whip up some chocolate and nut covered apricots to take with me to dinner tomorrow night. This is a simple and quick item to prepare for any occasion that you need to bring along something for everyone to snack on.

All you need is:
dried apricots
chocolate chips
chopped nuts

1. Melt the chocolate chips in a pan on low heat.
2. Dip the apricots in chocolate until it is covered half way.
3. Dip the chocolate covered part of the apricot in chopped nuts.
4. Place on wax paper, and place in freezer or fridge to cool.

Easy Chocolate Covered Apricots

Put this on a pretty plate and you will have a fairly healthy snack item to take along to your next gathering.

I told you it was easy!

New Socks Everyday?

I was playing that if I was rich game with my brother one day, and he told me that "if I was rich I would wear brand new socks everyday." He claimed that it just feels better to curl your toes up in new socks than in old ones.

This conversation popped into my mind today because my feet are a little sore today. I stand at my job for several hours a day. And occasionally I come home with sore feet. I don't really understand it. It's not everyday, just some. And today is one of those days. So this afternoon, I am dreaming of pedicures with foot massages.

Things I'd really love to buy today.
