Yes, it’s true I do prefer the big white drinking bowl in the bathroom over the regular water bowl. The water is so much cooler in this drinking bowl than the water that is put out for us. As most of you know I am a big boy so it is so much easier for me to lean against the bowl while I am standing on my back paws. From there I simply dip my front paw into the water, and I lick the water from my paw.  The water is so cool. But the human always tells me to stop it when she sees me doing this. I always have to give her the look when she tells me this. You all know the look. The one that communicates I am a cat, and I can do anything I want to. Sometimes the human is polite about telling me that I can’t drink from the big white drinking bowl. She looks at me and says I just put water out why are you drinking from the toilet? She will often tell me to come on and puts fresh water in the bowl again. I always do as she wishes when she speaks to me in this manner. I do believe that she should be rewarded for using the proper tone of voice with me. But when she yells stop it, I am not so cooperative. When she does this, I simply stand my ground. If I don’t move she will come over to me, and put down that big white lid on the big white drinking bowl. I believe that if she cannot be polite to me when she speaks to me, she is simply going to have to put extra effort into getting my cooperation.

Please let me know if any of you have a preference on where your drinking water comes from. Am I the only one who prefers to drink from the great white drinking bowl?

Things That Have Made This Week Great

1. Spending time with a good friend. It’s always good to catch up on what’s going on in our lives.

2. Realizing that I have made progress at organizing the house. It isn’t exactly the way I want it to be yet, but it’s looking better.

3. Finding that really comfortable pair of shoes when I was reorganizing items in my bedroom. I thought I got rid of them.

4. Finally getting that new lawn mower put together. It was a challenge, and I finally just hired someone. I just have the habit of putting things together backwards. Does anybody else have that problem?

5. Spending quality time with the beasties. My one cat is the most affectionate cat on the planet. And he always looks at me as though he adores me. It’s great to be loved isn’t it?

Let's Go Bowling

Do you remember the first time you went bowling? I do. I was in junior high, and as part of our physical education class we went bowling. I remember thinking I have no idea what is going on here. The first thing I had to do was get a different pair of shoes. And I thought why do I need different shoes? And as a 13 year old girl, I thought those are the ugliest shoes ever! After putting on the shoes, I just grabbed a bowling ball. I had no idea that bowling balls come in different weights. And well I grabbed a heavy one so I had a little difficulty throwing the ball. It soon became apparent to everyone that I was not an experienced bowler. I threw one gutterball after another. And I wound up with the whopping score of 12. Yes, I’ll say it again, 12. Needless to say I did not feel like a winner that day. But it is a day that I always look back on with a smile on my face. Since then I have grown to enjoy bowling, and I do seem to hit at least 100 every time I bowl. And far fewer of my throws are gutterballs.

So when I was contacted by One2One about an opportunity to let my readers know about AMF bowling centers Summer Sign Up Program, I said yes. And the fact that I could win a prize was another incentive, but no need to fear faithful followers the opinions are mine.  So what do you get from this program? Two free games of bowling for kids that are under the age of 15 every day of the week from now until September 2, 2013.  Shoe rental isn’t included, and it’s based on lane availability. But that’s still a pretty good deal.  All you have to do is register your kids in the program, and then show up at the center.

But that’s not the only deal they have going on. Adults ages 16 and up can purchase an AMF Summer Pass for $34.95. The pass includes 2 free games daily for the pass owner, and 3 guests. Once again you have to rent your shoes, but that’s still a great deal. And another great thing about this program is you can bowl anytime from the time the bowling center opens until 8 pm. That gives you a nice air conditioned place to go, get some exercise, and have some fun on a hot summer day.

So if you want to have a fun filled summer activity for you and your family, and if you want to save your children the embarrassment of bowling a 12 the first time they go bowling with their schoolmates, head on over to AMF Bowling Centers site, and sign up for the AMF Summer Unplugged program. You won’t regret it.

Whatcha Been Reading?

Everybody needs a good book recommendation. And here are three books that I've read recently, and recommend to all of you.

Flying Soup by Bobby Adair
What happens when you’re out for an innocent bike ride, and an anonymous car throws a can of soup out the window and nearly hits you with it? That’s where Christian Trist finds himself. And since he is a young techy, he and his friends decide to start a website dedicated to exposing the anonymous jerks in life. You know the people who treat you with no respect just because you don’t know them. The book takes a humorous look at how scandals involving politicians and organized religion evolve. The key words here are humorous. The writer is making fun of all of the individuals involved in these scandals. So if you read the book don’t get offended by some of the stereotypes of televangelists, and politicians. Definitely check this book out.

The Island of Lote by Emily Kinney
This book is about a young girl named Milo. Milo is quite unhappy living in her new building. She is bullied, and her parents really don’t understand her. So she finds a way to get away from her problems. She’ll attend summer camp in Australia, but there is a little problem on the way there. There is a plane wreck, and Milo is stranded on a desert island that nobody knows about. But she isn’t alone. Milo soon finds herself having to navigate through new and scary relationships. And she confronts a few fears of hers. In the book she learns how to trust, love, and be at ease with herself. I really like this book. Milo is a young spunky girl with lots of survival skills, and she isn’t afraid to confront some of the issues in her life so that she can become a better person. In my opinion this is a great book for tween and teen girls.

Water’s End by Jessica Deforest
Anne is a newly married woman, who finds that marriage isn’t what she thought it would be. Her husband ignores her completely, and when she tells him she wants to leave he does a few things that disturb her. Then she sees David. He’s beautiful, and he’s sensitive. When Anne decides to divorce her husband Joe, David and she fall in love. But somehow the relationship doesn’t work out right. And Anne spends the rest of her life wondering whatever happened to her true love David. Will she ever find him again? This is a romance that covers the span of a woman’s life. It’s different than many romances in that it shows how the definition of romance can change with age. Romance fans will definitely enjoy this book.
Let me know what you’ve been reading.

Greekfest Pictures

Once again I was able to go to one of the great festivals held in the area this weekend. It was Greekfest weekend. As the name suggests it is the weekend when the Greek population in our area celebrates its heritage. And here are a few of the reasons I like Greekfest.

1        I might have the chance of yelling opa, and people won’t think that I have Tourette syndrome.
2       Grape leaves are an acceptable food ingredient.
3      Instruments being played have interesting names like bouzouki.
4       And most of all there are loads of people to watch. And many things you don’t see at other times       of the year.
Here a few pics of things I saw at Greekfest.

I felt sorry for my roommate Bobaloo yesterday. For some reason unknown to her or us, the human decided that she needed a bath. It is an awful thing when one of us receives a bath. Even though I know that my roommates do not possess the high quality grooming skills that I do, they are quite capable of grooming themselves. But back to the story I heard this awful cry from little Bobaloo in the bathroom. And I could tell she was jumping around a lot. But I didn’t think too much about it. She is an active little thing so lots of jumping is not out of the ordinary. Then the bathroom door opened, and she came charging out. Horror of all horrors she was totally wet. She looked at me with her usual what are you looking at attitude. My other roommate Captain froze in his tracks. He looked at me with a look of what do we do? Then it dawned on both of us at the exact same moment. What if the human decides that we need a bath? I was terrified! I had to run, I had to hide. I know that we probably should have done something to console poor Bobaloo, but at that moment all I could think of was not being bathed. How could I avoid being bathed? And to tell you the truth she isn’t all that nice to me so I just didn’t bother with it. But I’ve decided that I must be very cautious for the next few days, you never know when that pet human of ours might decide it would be fun to give me a bath.

Tampons & Tylenol

My faithful followers all know that I enjoy spending time on youtube checking out videos. It depends on my mood what I punch in, but if you just keep following those recommendations at the side you are always sure to see something new. This was the case the other night, somehow I wound up with a song called Tampons & Tylenol by Genesis Be. A name like that catches your attention. So I punched the play button, and I immediately smiled. I liked what I was hearing. The intro had that beat you hear in a lot of rap songs, but it used a synthesizer so it didn’t quite sound like a lot of songs that  I’ve heard before. Then she started rapping, and who could forget lyrics like Tampons & Tylenol. But then she rapped the line she work two jobs go to class. And I remembered when that was what my life was like. The song is a rap song so there is cursing in the lyrics. But cursing isn’t the dominant part of the lyrics. If you find cursing offensive you might not like this song. The song is catchy and I hope that it receives airplay because it is so much fun to listen to.  And I hope that the video catches attention too. While some of it is what you expect from a music video with shots of the artist rapping, there are parts that show how creative the artist is. I really like how she edited in some sections with individuals dancing in black and white.  I also liked the section with the split screen. And  the part with the guy wearing a  rabbit head just made me smile. I think that it shows that Genesis Be is taking her music seriously, and that she will be around for a while.

Tampons & Tylenol by GenesisBe

I was a little bit curious about the artist so I went over to soundcloud and punched in her name. I was pleasantly surprised to see that she has several tracks on the site. And it has a clean version of Tampons & Tylenol which made me believe that she will receive that airplay I hoped for. (And for those of you who didn't watch the video because I let you know there was cursing you can listen to the clean version there.) But she also has other rap songs, some hip hop, and a couple r & b songs. Genesis Be is definitely a talented young lady that is sure to go far. So go on over and check out her soundcloud page to hear more of her music, and if you want to learn more about where she is playing visit her blog GenesisBe.

I Want a Job Just Like...

I’ve been thinking about what is the perfect job recently. Where would I really like to work? Is the perfect job working for me? Is it helping other people? Or is the perfect job earning loads of money? And after much thought I’ve decided that I want a job just like the minions in Despicable Me. Now I’m sure that you all are asking why anyone would want a job like theirs. And these are the reasons why.

1.       The minions are encouraged to help others. When Agnes’ unicorn is vaporized, the minions are sent out to get her a new one.

2.       If one of the minions makes a mistake the problem is addressed and then it’s not brought up again. During the big meeting with the boss one of the minions sets off a rocket and injures another minion the boss stops the meeting and tells the first minion to listen up. He then returns to presentation he was giving.

3.       The minions are allowed to be creative. When the boss goes to the adoption agency, the minions are allowed to put together his credentials. And they put together one creative list including the Medal of Honor, hosting a cooking show, and holding his breath for 30 seconds.

4.       They also have a great time at work. They make the most of their work time. They make photocopies of their butts, they sing karaoke when the chance arises in the store, and they participate in a toilet paper fight with the girls. But at the same time they work hard and they are proud of their work.

5.       And lastly, the boss appreciates them. When the minions want a good night kiss in the movie the boss refuses at first, but then says alright because he really does value each and every one of his workers.

Doesn’t this sound like the perfect place to work to you?

Salad Time

Yes, it’s summer time, and that means nobody wants a heavy meal on a hot day. So that means it’s time to make salads. This one is super easy to make and it’s a no cook type of dish so the kitchen doesn’t get extra summer heat.

To start with you need a big bowl full of mixed green lettuce. Don’t just pick the regular head lettuce, but choose something with a variety of lettuces in it. Now thinly slice 8 radishes. Add ¾ cup of feta cheese. And toss all of these ingredients. Now drizzle 2 Tbsp olive oil over the salad, and the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon. Add salt and pepper to taste. See I told you it was easy.

Things I've Seen Recently

Most of us have been to them, you know the local rib festival. Where fantastic rib vendors come in from around the country and sell their scrumpdilicious ribs. Our Ribfest was this weekend. It always seems to fall on Father’s Day, and I have to admit if my dad lived in the area I would probably pick up a slab of ribs from the festival and take it to him for Father’s Day dinner. But I digress. Ribfest is always one of my favorite festivals in the area. It’s a time when you can go down and eat loads of food that really isn’t that good for you. And I don’t feel too guilty about doing it. I mean it’s only once a year right. Why not go a little crazy? So I went to the festival twice this year. And I got to try a couple different types of ribs, and of course listen to some music. And best of all look at the people and things that surrounded me at the festival. These are a couple of things I saw while I was at the festival.

Yes, it’s a tiki carnival game. Totally awesome!

Yes, that pig does have wings,

But the cart seems to be its means of transportation and not the wings. I guess pigs can’t fly yet.

Bobaloo's Views on Playing Fetch

I can’t believe it. My roommate has decided that fetch is a fun game. I have to admit that he is not nearly as good at the game as I am, but he is catching on. Captain doesn’t like to play with the hair ties like I do, but instead he wants to play with the stuffed animals we have. And instead of bringing the item back immediately sometimes he decides to throw the item in the air and watch it fall to the ground. I’ve tried to inform him that this is not the proper technique for playing fetch, but he doesn’t listen. Is it because he’s a male or is it because he is so much bigger than I am? For some reason he never takes my advice. This brings us to the current problem. While Captain was playing with his toy instead of bringing it back to be thrown again, he threw it in the big white toilet. Our pet human found it there, and came out asking who did this? She looked at me. Now she knows I am far too smart to do a silly thing like this. But still I did not like her asking me if I was the one who did this. She needs to lay the blame on the appropriate feline. I am still trying to decide how I will deal with this problem in future. For some reason I’m sure that that big roommate of mine will do it again. This time I decided to let the accusation lie, but next time I may have to teach the human a lesson. Do any of my fellow felines have problems with being blamed for something their roommate did, and if so how do you deal with it? Please let me know I need advice on this matter.

I'm a Winner

Yes, I got an email a week or so ago, and it told me I won a drawing. I was so excited, and it helped make my week really great. For those of you who say nobody every wins those things. This should encourage you. I entered the giveaway through A Stylish Little Lady. If you haven’t visited it you should.  Her blog is all about what she feels is great on the internet. And her writing is excellent. Many of you are thinking so what did you win? I won this!

It’s a tote bag from Red House Inc And it’s a nice one too! It has leather handles with rivets securing them to the canvas. And it’s more like a handbag than a tote bag. It’s only 11 x 14. It’s big enough to carry the essentials plus a little, but you won’t feel like you’re carrying a bag of groceries with you. And I love the red arrow design on the bag. So I am so glad that rafflecopter was kind to me and picked me as the winner of this great bag.

And I just want to offer up a big thank you to A Stylish Little Lady and Red House Inc for the great giveaway that they provided.

Pass the Peas Please

What do you do when someone kindly gives you a couple pounds of fresh peas that are already shelled? You pass the peas a couple of times. While I’m not a fan of canned peas, fresh peas taste great. But even though I was extremely grateful for all the fresh food what do you do with all those peas? And this is what I came up with.

Take a couple tablespoons of butter and heat it in a pan. Chop a clove of garlic and an onion. Add to the butter. Add about a cup of peas. Make sure you add a little water. Cook for about 5 minutes. Then add 2 or three cut up tomatoes. And that’s an easy peasy way to liven up peas.

Ivan Mihaljevic & Side Effects

I was on soundcloud, and somehow I came across this band called Ivan Mihaljevic and Side Effects.  The song I was listening to was Eclipse.  The intro really caught my attention. It had bells and violins playing, and I thought to myself this is pretty.  Then the guitar work came in, and yes it rocks. Ivan can play his guitar! Then I listened to the lyrics. The song is about depression. He describes how when you feel depressed you know that you need to get out of the depression, but you don’t really know how to do it. And then you try to talk to people about how you’re feeling, and they just tell you not to think about those things. So you just don’t talk to people about how you’re feeling. It’s something a lot of people have experienced. You can listen to Eclipse in the video below.

So as I was listening to more of the music off their release Counterclockwise, I began to look up some info on the band. And I found out Ivan’s been around for a while. When he belonged to the band Hard Time he opened up for acts including The Scorpions, and The Cult. And I thought to myself why haven’t I heard of this guy before? I am a metal fan after all. Is it because they are from Croatia? Who knows why huh?

But as I was reading I found out that the other members of Side Effects have some great credentials too. The drummer Alen Frljak teaches drums at the Modern Rock Institute, and he’s opened for acts like Lamb of God. And the bass player, Marko Karacic has played with other popular Croatian bands. They are all seasoned and talented musicians.  The three of them have put together some new music that leaves listeners wanting to hear more.  You can check out more of their music on their Soundcloud page.

I Spent The Day at the Races

No, I didn’t go to the horse races, or a track meet. I went to the Weiner Dog Races. A lot of communities now have Weiner dog races and if there is one in your community I recommend that you attend. I am always surprised how fast those little dogs can run.  I mean they have those short little legs and such long bodies for their height. They are cute little dogs, but not dogs that I expect to run fast.

I am always amazed to see the diversity among these little dogs. There are ones with long hair, short hair, dark coloring, and red coloring.

These are a couple of the things I observed while I was at the races.

Starting is 90% of winning. I was surprised at how many of the dogs won races just because the person the other dog did not show up for the race.
Whatever you do-do it with style. This dog was not a fast racer, but his personal style made him a winner of at least one race.
Don’t be afraid to sing your own praises. One little dog yapped from the time his owners started bringing him to the race line to the time he began to run.  He was not afraid to let the competition know his how good a racer he was.

And last but not least. Always take time to relax after you have worked hard.

I hate the words stop it. I am a cat and therefore I should be able to do whatever I want. But there are times when my pet human doesn’t think like this. And she tells me to stop it. Like the time I decided to lick her armpit. I was simply showing my love for her, and she yells stop it. When she tells me to stop it, I often just look away, and in a couple of seconds resume what I was doing. There are times when this brings another stop it, and it is often not in a friendly voice. This irritates me! This is my house not hers, I merely allow her to live here. And she tells me to stop what I’m doing. This needs to change. Does anyone else have difficulties with their humans telling them to stop participating in feline activities in own home? Please provide me some advice on how to change my human’s habit of saying stop it.

Things That Have Made This Week Fabulous

My friend Jen! She gave me two huge bags of clothes for my shop! You rock Jen!

My friend Andy! He came to my rescue with a lawn mower so that the weed patrol people don’t put a nasty sign in my front yard.

That email I got today saying that I won a prize! I can’t wait to see the new tote bag I won. It’s gonna be the best tote I’ve ever owned.

Looking out the window and seeing the sun shining. It rained for a couple of days. Rainy days are nice, but I really love the sunshine.

Looking around the house, and realizing that I have made a dent in this organization thing. Now I just really need to finish organizing. Why does it take so long for me to do this stuff?

Watching my huge white cat dig a little tiny stuffed animal out of a box and play with it. He looked so cute.

Whatcha Been Watchin?

Ok, so it’s time to take a look at some of the movies I’ve seen lately. There have been a few good ones and a couple bad ones.

Iron Man 3 Robert Downey Jr. returns as Tony Starks. And of course he is as self-absorbed as usual. And then a terrorist named The Mandorin comes onto the screen. He literally breaks onto all of the television screens around the country. And The Mandorin has a few lessons he wants to teach the world. This movie is full of action, which makes it loads of fun. But my favorite part of the movie was when The Mandorin’s private life was revealed. Trust me it’s fun.

Epic was not so epic, but it was enjoyable. Usually I love movies that are geared to children. But this wasn’t my favorite animated movie. It was more the story line. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for that type of movie that day, but it didn’t make me want to watch the movie again. But the animation was beautiful in the film. And I’m sure most kids will like it.

This Must Be the Place is my favorite movie that I’ve seen recently. It’s about an aging rock star. He still wears make-up and dresses in black. But he refuses to perform anymore. He winds up going on a journey to search for the man who humiliated his father. My absolute favorite scene in the movie is when his vehicle is on fire. He is looking at the burning truck, when a semi drive stops and asks him what happened. He replies I don’t know. The truck driver asks when he changed his oil last. And the reply is about an hour and a half ago. The truck driver says spontaneous combustion. It’s rare but it happens. The rock star replies a lot of strange things have been happening to me recently. The movie is full of the off-beat moments that reflect real life.

Black Butler is an anime series. If you’re a Steampunk fan, then you definitely need to watch this series. It’s in Japanese so you’ll have to read the subtitles, but the animation is great. It’s set in the Victorian era, and the butler is a demon. Ciel, the main character is a wealthy young aristocrat whose parents have died. Ciel spends his time investigating difficult to solve crimes. Trust me it’s great!

My So Called Life do you remember the series from the early 90’s. It only lasted a couple of seasons. It’s about life as a teenager in the early 90’s. But it’s not your typical teenage drama. The characters all remind me of people you may know in your real life. And it also portrays the adults in the young people’s lives as real people with their flaws and strengths. Overall, it’s a great show, and I wish television producers would make more series like it.

So check these out, and let me know what you’ve been watching recently.

I Hate to Admit It

I hate to admit it, but there are a few songs I like that most people groan when they hear. You know the songs that aren't cool. The ones that are overplayed on the radio. Or they are simply a little bit annoying. So here are the three songs I really like that a lot of people just roll their eyes when they hear them.

The first one is Aqua's Barbie-Girl. It's a total fluff song, but it is oh so much fun to sing along to isn't it? Admit it you like this one too. I remember talking with a friend and both of us bursting out laughing when we admitted that we liked the song. She said I can't believe somebody else likes that song everybody else makes fun of me for liking it.
The second one is Taco's Puttin on the Ritz. I remember the groans coming out of a boyfriends mouth when I started singing along with this song. I've never understood why he didn't like this song, I mean it made it into Young Frankenstein. Well, not Taco's version, but the song did.
And last one I'm going to admit to today is Baha Men's Who Let the Dogs Out? I know so many people are like oh, no not this song, but I believe a lot of people really like this song. The problem with this song is it was just overplayed. The song is so catchy, and it just makes you smile when you listen to it.
Do any of you have songs that you hate to admit that you like?

What if

One day when I was at work this woman told me “I was late today because my daughter was late getting home. She had my car so I couldn’t leave until she got home.”  The woman told me how she was so angry with her daughter. She said it was just a couple of minutes late, but it threw her daily schedule off just a little. On her way to work there was a car on the side of the road with the door open, and she could hear sirens. She said she didn’t have time to stop, and she knew help was on the way because she could hear sirens. She later found out that the person in that car had been shot. It had just occurred a couple minutes before she drove past. The shooting was a random one, there was no purpose behind the shooting. She told me what if my daughter wasn’t late I would have been in that location when it happened. It could have been me that was shot.

I guess so often we think about what if this would have happened. If only this hadn’t happened. But really maybe those things that seem like such a pain in the butt were a way of protecting us.

So if things don’t go exactly as you planned them today, keep in mind it might just be your guardian angel earning his paycheck for the day. He might be protecting you from the what if in your life.

Thunderstorms! They scare me to death. The minute I hear the wind pick up, I become tense. I immediately look from side to side trying to decide where I should go. Then I start to run to a hiding spot. The best place to hide in my home is the basement. I believe that is where the National Weather Service advises individuals to go during storms. So I believe that I am going to the safest place in the house. My roommates prefer to stay with our pet human to take care of her. But when it comes to thunder I believe that she is on her own. And besides she knows that the basement is the safest place. So I do not believe that I need to take time to remind her of that. After all personal safety is a choice. And I am not going to waste time trying to convince them that they need to go with me. I simply do the responsible thing and go to the basement. Do any of the rest of you have trouble with your humans not paying attention to their personal safety?

Really Cool Finds

It's been a while since I showed you all some of the really cool things I've found when I go out thrifting. So here are some of my recent really cool finds.

I really love the floral print on this tin.

Blue is my favorite color, and I loved that the dish look different than anything else I own.

It's never too early to find great Christmas stuff is it?

A stack of pastel hankies.

A Jerusalem Cross

And this sweet little beaded purse.

Let me know what you think of what I've found.
