Don’t See the Big Picture

Today I'm lucky I have my friend Grahame has agreed to provide us with an excerpt from his upcoming book. So here's a look at what he's written, please leave comments and let me know what you think of what you read.

Don't See the Big Picture
Most of what you have read about getting what you want, probably told you to focus intently on the future, as if it has already happened. Imaging yourself as already having achieved your goal, visualising yourself exactly where you want to be.
I want to tell you why I think this is a bad idea.
Your unconscious mind cannot tell the difference between something vividly imagined and reality. Horror films are a great example of this, you know logically what you are watching isn’t real, but you still get scared. Even if you think about the film a week later, you can still feel scared. Your imagination is driving the emotion you are feeling, it’s as if you are there and your body acts accordingly.
So when you vividly imagine yourself  having achieved your goal, the unconscious mind will take the foot off the gas so to speak. The reason it will do this is because your brain uses twenty percent of the calories you consume in a day, so as far as it is concerned the goal has been achieved therefore precious resources can be diverted elsewhere…makes sense.

I want to offer you an alternative, I want you to visualise going through the step you are currently engaged in and no further, don’t visualise the outcome, just the process. I think you will find this a very viable alternative, test it and see for yourself. As a matter of fact test everything I tell you, and see if it works for you. Then adapt it to your life and lifestyle as you see fit.

When you hear the word courage we often think of those individuals who have fought in battles and saved lives. We see the people who stand up for the right thing when no else does as being courageous. It’s true these people all have courage. But how did they get that kind of courage?

Courage isn’t simply something someone is born with it’s developed over time. And it often involves everyday activities.  And often the most courageous people in the world are never noticed.

The two most courageous people I know aren’t going to receive any awards, but they’ve got courage.
The neighbor girl who goes to school each day even though the other kids tease her because she doesn’t have money to dress as well as some of her peers. The girl told me she has friends, but some of the other girls at school just aren’t nice to her. They don’t understand that she helps her mom out with her younger brothers. And that her mother doesn’t speak English very well so she helps her when they go places where her mom will need to speak English. She told me she wants to do well in school so that she can help her family have a better future. She says that she doesn’t think the other girls at school understand that and that is why they make fun of her. It takes a lot of guts to think and act this way.

The other is one of the gentlemen who is developmentally disabled. For several years his father said he wouldn’t do anything. He told someone that he wanted a job. And well he got one working at a grocery store. He now tells everyone I have a job.

Both of these individuals have taken small lots of small courageous steps, and it has turned into a big act of courage with great benefits for both of them.

New Music By Sprightly Moans

Remember a few weeks ago I did a review on a band called Sprightly Moans.  And now they’ve released some new songs on their Soundcloud page. There are three new songs, Blushes All Around, I Wanna Be Afraid, and Love is Nothing Without Eternity.

Blushes All Around talks a lot about love, but it isn’t a love song. It’s a song that states simply that the singer doesn’t care about love. And the melody relies heavily on bass and drums. So it has that sound from the heavy metal bands from the 70’s. But the song also reminded me of some of the grunge songs from the 90’s. The bass in the song made me think of the band Mudhoney.

I Wanna Be Afraid is has also has that metal feel, and the vocals reminded of David Bowie’s earlier works. The lyrics of the song aren’t positive.  But they do express the emotions an individual may have when they know things are all screwed up, and you secretly hope that things just don’t work out because everything is so screwed up.

Love is Nothing Without Eternity has a pretty melody. I really like the ukulele in the song. The song is a love song of sorts. It’s more about dying with the one you love. The lyrics kind of remind of Blue Oyster Cult’s Don’t Fear the Reaper. Most people love the song even though the lyrics are dark.

Sprightly Moans music probably isn’t for everybody, but I really like that they aren’t following the cookie cutter format for music. I like this band, and if you are looking for something with a heavier edge and not so light lyrics go over to their Soundcloud page and listen to their new songs. And for my followers who are lucky enough to live in the Austin area, head on out on January 30th to the Red Eyed Fly for the band’s cd release party.

Legendary Detective Agency Series

I recently had the opportunity to read the first two books in the Legendary Detective Agency Series.  The books are about a detective agency that is set in a cyberpunk world. Young Jake finds himself asking a strange man named Kirin to help him solve a mystery in the first book called Legendary Detective Agency at the World’s End. Kirin leads Jake on a series of adventures, but the adventures do seem to be worth it. Kirin has a unique talent of being able to solve mysteries quickly. By the end of the first book which contains stories one, two and three. Jake and Kirin are set to work together.

In the second book called Legendary Detective in the City of Kings, Jake has managed to drum up a lot of business for the agency. But Kirin is showing no interest in solving any of the crimes. But a case does come along that catches Kirin’s interest. One involving Jake’s childhood love, and soon many of the small cases that Kirin has shown no interest in are solved through the investigation of that case. And the ending leaves the story open for mysteries to come.

I really enjoyed reading these books. The books are full of adventure and dialogue. The stories are set in a steampunk future world, which is something I really like. And the story is full of offbeat characters, who live just on the edge of life. If you haven’t got the gist of it yet, I like the books. And I recommend them to individuals who are looking for mysteries set in a little different world. The stories involve individuals from different age ranges so teenagers would enjoy reading these books too. If you want to read a series that is fun and grabs your attention then these are books you will probably enjoy

You can find The Legendary Detective Agency at the World’s End and Legendary Detective in the City of Kings by Kaye Wagner on Amazon.

The Countdown

Winter is not my favorite time of year. Don’t get me wrong I think the snow is pretty. In fact when it was snowing during The Big Storm a couple of weeks ago, the snow coming down was beautiful. But overall, I dislike winter. I dislike being cold. I dislike the extra 15 minutes it takes me to put on a hat coat gloves scarf and boots when I leave the house each day. I don’t like the grey skies day in and day out. There are times when the sun doesn’t come out for days on end, and I think to myself will this ever end? And there have been years when I began counting down the days until spring at the beginning of the New Year.

This year I decided that I would try and avoid that type of thing. I decided I would try to enjoy the winter a little more. Perhaps counting the days down until spring was causing the winter to seem longer. And I have made an effort to enjoy this cold season more this year. I attended the lighting of all the Christmas lights on a cold night in November. Normally, I would not have stepped outside when it was that cold. I also decided to go out and shovel the drive way when the big storm hit this year. I normally would have paid someone. So it seemed as though my plan to stay away from the countdown to spring was working. Then I ran into someone at the office I work in and she is now informing me of how many days there are until the first day of spring. Part of me is glad to know just how many days until the weather gets warmer. But I do believe that not counting down the days was helping me enjoy the cold weather a little more. I wasn’t as focused on what was going to happen. So when she asks me do you know how many days until spring next time I think I’m just going to say I’ll wait and see.

Northern Boy

Northern Boy is the upcoming release from J.P. Kallio. The songs on Northern Boy are songs you would expect to hear in a coffee house. Kallio uses acoustic guitars and vocals throughout the dvd.
The song It Ain’t Easy is all about how a relationship changes. How difficult it can be when you see the person you love becomes something else due to their addictions. And the sadness you feel when you realize that it’s time to end the relationship because things aren’t going to get better. The melody is sad and reflective which fits the lyrics to the song.

The song November is a song that reflects on how things are a little more difficult in the cold months. Kallio points out in the song that November is the beginning of the Christmas season. But while many individuals find this time of year exciting, others simply want it to be over. And it points out how many of us long for warmer weather.

But my favorite track on Northern Boy is Greener Grass. I think it really reflects the times in my life when I have felt like I am doing things all wrong no matter how hard I try. The pace of the song was a little quicker than some of the other songs on the dvd, and the melody is one that sticks with you.

Northern Boy will be available for purchase in March through itunes. And with its folksy overtones it will definitely be worth purchasing.

Do You Believe In Fairies?

There was some down time at work the other day, and we were doing what all good employees do when they have extra time. We were looking up our hobbit names. In case you don’t know I am a geek girl.  Then I mentioned I wonder what my name as a fairy would be. Out of my co-workers mouth fall words that I never thought I would hear. He says I believe in fairies. I saw one as a child.

Now, I work at a pretty conservative place, and as I have mentioned I didn’t expect to hear that ever during my time working there. So I thought how do I play this one out? I decided to reply with the neutral ‘really?’

‘He said I know people think I’m crazy when I say it, but I saw a fairy as a child, and it wasn’t a nice one either!’ Nobody believe me when I say it! Now, I thought about my response for a second. Honestly, I didn’t know how to respond. I thought to myself, do I believe that he could have seen a fairy? And I surprised myself with the response to myself with maybe he did see one. Or maybe he’s just crazy. So I replied with the only thing I could. I don’t disbelieve you.

And as he told me the story about seeing a fairy when he was young, I realized I believe that he saw something out there in woods as a child. Was it a fairy? I’m not sure, but I do believe that this man who has a few eccentricities knows without a doubt that he saw a fairy. And I also realized that maybe I haven’t grown up as much as I thought I had because I do believe that it is possible that people really do see fairies. And so I'm asking you do you believe in fairies?

A Picture of Happiness

As we all know our personal picture of happiness changes throughout our lifetime. I’ve been thinking about how my view of happiness has changed over time. And this is how I see what happiness has looked at through the years.

As a child happiness always revolved around Christmas holidays, and snow days. Carefree summer days where I was able to sleep in and how much time I could spend outside playing.

As a teenager happiness meant new clothes. Yes, I would look at magazines and dream about the items I could buy, and how I could put together different outfits.

In my 20’s happiness involved what was going on each weekend. Was there a party to go to? Or was I going to go to the movies with a group of friends. What was happening that was fun?

In my 30’s happiness involved what new event I could find. What new and exciting place could I go to? What new and exciting person would show me something exciting in the world?

And now in my 40’s happiness is a day I can spend time at home. Happiness is about preparing and consuming a great meal. It’s about spending quality time with individuals instead of constantly being with people. It’s also about what I not being so busy all the time. It’s about being happy in the moment instead of being happy about an event.

What does happiness mean to you, and how has it changed throughout your life?

Polydemensional Space by Dr. Sound

Dr. Sound is originally from Romania, but now lives in Sweden. He has produced a new cd called Polydemensional Space. Dr. Sound’s music is electronica, and it has that new age feel to it. The music has a slightly eerie, and sad feel to it. Dr. Sound claims that the inspiration for the music is the time he spent growing up in Romania during the cold war. The music is slow paced, and even though it has a sad tone to it, it is relaxing to listen to.

The music is perfect to listen to if right before bed because it is so relaxing to listen to. And if you have a meditation regimine that involves music, Polydemensional Space will definitely put you in the right frame of mind to mediate. This music is sure to help you relax.

Two Services that are Absolutely Fabulous

I’ve run across a couple of businesses that I think are absolutely fabulous. And I’ve decided to share them with you. They both provide services to a niche market, but I believe they are worth the money you spend on them.
The first is Valerie Michelle Décor. Valerie is an interior decorator who provides an inexpensive way of hiring a decorator. Through her shop on etsy called Valerie Michelle Décor she provides affordable home decorating plans. Her plans provide you with a downloadable picture of items that look great together. The pre-made boards include paint colors, to the items that add that special feel to a room.

But she doesn’t stop with pre-made plans. You can also purchase customizable virtual layouts. So you are able to have the services of an interior decorator without setting a time for them to come to your home. All you have to do is submit the information about your room, and within two to three days she provides with plans to decorate with. That’s decorating that can be done at 3:00am. Because the service is provided virtually, it is much more cost effective than having a designer come to your home. If you’re looking to redecorate your home, this is one inexpensive means of getting a professional look. So visit her shop or her blog to see what is included.

The other service that might be of interest to all of you is Escape Monthly. This is a subscription program that provides you with a vacation in a box each month. I know there are those saying, um, how does that work? It’s simple; Escape Monthly puts together a box of quality items from spas, and boutiques around the world. Your box could include the items that you would use at a luxurious spa, or it could include chocolates from around the world. You know the items you would purchase when you are on a vacation. The boxes give you the feel of the vacation without actually having to spend the money on the travel part. The other great thing about the service is you don’t have to subscribe in order to receive the items. If you visit their website you can purchase boxes from previous months at a deep discount. So you can get some great deals. Visit the site, and see what it’s all about.

Dear Inventor of the Wheel

I’m not really sure what your name is but as the inventor of the wheel you are a really important part of my life. Yes, it’s strange isn’t it that someone I never met is part of my everyday life. But I realized just how important you are to me the other day as I was sitting on an icy incline spinning my wheels. Now I am sure that you are thinking that you had no intention for your invention to be spun on ice. It was the result of the big storm that hit our area this past week.

I’m sure that when you first had that brilliant idea that a round object placed underneath a something that you wanted to transport from one place to another you thought this will simply make my life easier. But boy did you ever change the world. I am able to get places so much quicker because I can drive my car to get there.

But I wonder if you can imagine the downside to your invention? Tires are the common name for the wheel now. They are used up rapidly on the planet now. And approximately one tire is discarded by each person each year. The problem is there is no place to discard these tires safely.  And there are very few uses for so many discarded tires.
Inventor of the wheel you are a creative individual who was able to solve a complex problem. So would you be able to sit down and think of a practical way that our current society can solve this problem of excess tires?

I look forward to hearing from you soon with a great solution to this huge problem we currently have.

At Intervals Hinges

At Intervals is a band from the Houston area that has a new release called Hinges. At Intervals is another band that is perfect to listen to on snowy winter afternoons.

Hinges is composed of five songs that utilize synthesizers, guitars, drums, and of course great vocals. At Intervals music reminds me a little bit of Coldplay. I think part of it is the airy sound of the music. And the fact that the songs have a pop feel to them, but it’s not the pop music that you hear played over and over on the radio.

In the song  Off and On the band combines a lyrics with a promise of change with a slow melody, that is a lot like how you feel when you are promising someone you love that you will change. It also tells about how much you really need someone.  And the singers voice reminds of Michael Stipe’s in some of R.E.M.’s slower songs.

I think my favorite song on Hinges is Desperately Clear. It’s a song about when you realize that you aren’t going to live forever, and that you need to really go out and live your life.

The song Leave What You Need shows that the band has beliefs in God. It’s not preachy, but they are definitely asking for God to take what he needs in their lives, and provide them with peace.

Overall, I can’t wait to hear more from At Intervals, and I encourage everybody to visit their page on Noisetrade to listen to their music.

The Big Storm

The big storm and the cold front that came with the storm seem to have moved on, but the big storm did shape this week. In fact it has provided quite a few surprises. So here are a few of the surprises it provided me with this week.

The first surprise the big storm brought was a phone call from my supervisor on Sunday night. She told me that they had enough they had implemented the companies emergency plan. They had individuals at the hotel that would go in early in the morning, so I could come in 3 and half hours late.  Woohoo, it was a work delay. I was extremely grateful because it meant that I didn’t have to get up in the middle of the night and shovel snow.

I got up early the next morning because I knew that I would have shovel the drive way. I was so thankful that it had stopped snowing, but there were several inches of snow that needed to be shoveled. I looked online to see what was going on with the weather. And I received another please surprise.  The city declared a snow emergency; travel was restricted to emergency vehicles only. Yes! I got a snow day! Those don’t come around too often as adults. So I decided to do a happy dance.

After a couple hours of relaxation, the sun came out and I decided that I really did need to shovel my drive way. And I realized someone had borrowed my snow shovel.  Yes, a challenge had been presented. Thankfully, I had another shovel that I could use on the drive.

Since I had the day off of work, I thought that I would lose a day of pay. But when I arrived at work on Tuesday, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that since a snow emergency had been declared the company was going to pay us.  Another woohoo! I could pay the bills this week.

After work I decided I need to go to the store, so did everybody else in town.  I knew that everything was still covered with ice, and I didn’t think when I turned to go up an incline in my little compact car. This was a mistake. Half way up the hill, I didn’t have enough traction to make it to the top. So I’m faced with the decision to roll backwards, or spin my wheels. I started roll backwards, and a car decides to turn in. I stomped on the brakes, and I was stuck half way up the hill. The big surprise during that event was two people jumped out of their vehicles and pushed me up the hill.

Wednesday morning rolls around; one of the gentlemen I worked with was saying how they had contacted him on Sunday. He stated that they asked if he would be willing to stay in the hotel with the other staff members. He stated that he couldn’t because he didn’t have anyone to stay with his kids. My co-worker standing behind me says why couldn’t wife do that did you she leave you or something? He replies, yeah. She didn’t let go of it, she asked him three times before she realized he wasn’t kidding.  And I was standing right in the middle of an awkward conversation full of surprises.

Yes, the big storm brought about many surprises, most of them were pleasant. And I was reminded that even though life may be offering a big storm, there is always something good that will come from it.

Healthy Outlooks

Everyone around us is always talking about ways to have healthy outlooks in life, but it is so hard to find solid examples of those healthy outlooks. I’ve decided that one group of the most perfect examples of healthy outlooks in life are The Minions. Yes, I know The Minions are fictional characters, but they really do display some really healthy outlooks in life. So here are a few of the things the minions do in order to maintain the great attitude in life.

Play is Important

It doesn’t matter what the minions do, they always have fun with what they are doing. In the video below, the minions are constantly joking with each other. The play jokes on each and laugh.

Part of the reason the minions have such a great time in life is they are competitive. It doesn’t matter if it’s karaoke or going out on a ledge. The minions turn it into a game, and they try to see who is best at playing the game. And they have a great time doing it.

And finally, while the minions are competitive, they do work together as a team if a task needs to be accomplished. Watch the video all the way through and you’ll see.  Yes, the video has a play on the old joke, how many minions does it take to screw in a light bulb? The point is the minions see a problem, they work together, and the problem is solved.

Maybe if more of us had the attitude that of the minions we could reduce some of the stress in our lives.

Mandarin Orange and Peapod Chicken Stir Fry

Okay, so we all love Chinese food. And we’ve all made that New Year’s resolution to eat healthier, but sometimes healthy food can get a little boring. Mandarin Orange and Peapod Chicken Stir Fry like all stir fry meals is healthy, and stir fry is one of those tasty easy meals to make as well.

Here’s what you need

Mandarin Orange and Peapod Chicken Stir Fry
1 small can of mandarin oranges
1 cup of peapods
2 chicken breast cut into bite size pieces
¼ cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon ginger
¼ cup chicken broth
2 cups cooked brown rice

Here’s what you need to do

Prepare your brown rice ahead of time.

Heat your oil in a pan. A skillet will work, but a stir fry pan is best.
Now add your chicken, since they are small pieces it should only take a few minutes. Make sure your chicken is cooked through. It shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes if your pieces are small enough.
Next add your broth, and the snowpeas. Fry them for 2 to three minutes. Next add the ginger and mandarin oranges. Continue cooking until the oranges are warm.

Now serve over the brown rice. And you have a healthy and tasty meal.

The Winning Ticket

I don’t know if you have read about the man in New York who was raking leaves, and found the winning ticket. You know the winning lottery ticket. And my faithful followers know that I asked Santa for the winning ticket for Christmas. Sadly, he did not deliver it, but what if he had, what would I do with the winning ticket?

First, I would probably check the numbers over and over to make sure it was a winning ticket. But after I got everything settled, and knew for sure that I was going to receive the money. I would do what a friend of mine always said he would do if he won the lottery. Call into work rich! Yes, I do believe that I would do this. I wouldn’t be mean, and tell people off or anything like that, I would just say I don’t need this job anymore.

Next, I would talk to a financial advisor. Yes, I would have to invest most of the money wisely. And I would need a financial advisor in order to do this. On second thought maybe I should do that before I call into work rich. But I’m still calling in rich either way.

Now, I would provide friends and family with a small help me out lump sum of money. It would definitely be enough to make their lives easier. Yes, everybody be nice to me, you never know when I could get the winning ticket.

Since a winning ticket would provide me with some financial freedom, what would I do for a living? Well, I think that I might just blog for a living. You know do lots of fun, and fantastic things, and let the world know about it.

But with financial freedom comes some responsibilities to the community I live in. So I need to provide something for that community. There are always so many worthy charities in the area. What would be something would provide my community that could help solve problems for a great period of time? Homeless shelters? Yes, I would help them out some. Health groups, of course we all need access to better health care. But if I could do one thing to make my community better, I think that I would donate to the schools. Many schools in the country are in desperate need of updating, and materials. We all know that teachers spend a lot of money of purchasing materials for their classes. We all hear about how departments in the fine arts are being eliminated because there just isn’t enough money for the program. I would do something to change this. How this would be done I don’t know, but hey I’ll have tons of money once I get the winning ticket, and I’ll be able to figure it out.

So let me know what you would do with the winning ticket if you had it.

Paying It Forward Weekend

Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past several years, we’ve all heard of the Pay It Forward idea. But for those of you that have been living in a cave, I’ll give you an idea of what Pay It Forward is. Paying It Forward simply put is a random act of kindness. But the catch is you do it simply for the act of being kind, and don’t expect anything in return. It’s an idea that encourages all of us to be kind to others. And that is always a good thing isn’t it?

 Paying It Forward Weekend

So what’s this about Pay It Forward Weekend? Pay It Forward Weekend is January 17th -19th. That weekend we are all being asked to Pay It Forward that weekend. During that weekend we are being asked to volunteer time, buy a meal for a stranger, or simply send someone a card.

Now there are those of you who are saying, ‘shouldn’t we be doing this all the time?’ Yes, we should, but we all know that we become busy in our lives, and sometimes we tell ourselves I just don’t have time to do that. We don’t want to get involved with other people because we don’t have time for that. So we don’t ask the person in the office if there is anything we can do for them when we overhear them receiving a phone call that delivers some bad news. We tell ourselves it’s not our business.

Now there are also people saying, ‘buying a meal for someone who doesn’t need it doesn’t do any good. That money should go to the poor.’ The truth is if you buy a meal for a random stranger, you might be buying a meal for an individual who just found out that a family member had a terminal illness. Your act of kindness might be the one thing that day that provides them with some hope during that day.

The Pay It Forward weekend is a great way for all of us to get involved in the world around us, and I encourage everyone to participate. Look around you, and you will see that the world is full of ways that you can Pay It Forward.

Advice on Dating a Geek Girl

Many individuals will begin the New Year with New Year’s  Resolutions. And many of these individuals will have a resolution to find love. And some of your lucky gentlemen will be lucky enough to date a Geek Girl. So since I am a geek girl, here is my advice on dating a geek girl.

Don’t Act Like Jabba The Hutt

I have heard geek girls state they want to date someone like many of the characters of Star Wars, but Jabba the Hutt is  not one of the characters that anyone every mentions wanting to date. This means that you need to make sure that every time you take your geek girl out on a date that you look your best.  Jabba was known for repulsing the ladies. Remember that look on Princess Leia’s face when she got to close to him. You don’t want that happening to you do you? And Jabba’s social skills were a little lacking. Jabba called all the shots, the world at Jabba’s palace revolved around him. Geek girls don’t like this. Make sure that you use enough of your social skills to talk to her about things she is interested in.

Hello Kitty Is Perfect

Yes, boys your geek girl probably loves Hello Kitty. Her room may not be full of the cute little kitty, but she likes her. Geek girls like comic books, and Superman, but they are also girls who like girly things. You will have to put up with cute girly stuff during your relationship. Don’t shy away from the cute. While looking at kawaii items, watching True Blood, and other girly geek activities may not be your favorite activities, they will definitely earn you the respect of your geek girl. You’ll get respect just because you are willing to share in something she really loves.

Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend

Yes, if you are serious about your geek girl it is important to remember that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Now that doesn’t mean that you have to get her an engagement ring, but geek girls do like pretty shiny sparkly stones. Remember Amy’s response when Sheldon got her the tiara. He didn’t go for the usual diamond gift. He got her a tiara, and it made Amy feel like a princess. He scored big points. Figure out what will sparkly stones will please your geek girl, and you could get those points too.

Gentlemen take this advice and your relationship with your geek girl will definitely run much smoother.

Five Questions for the New Year

It’s the New Year and here are a few of the questions I asked myself, and the answers I have for them.

Do you plan to change any of your eating habits in the New Year?

Yes, I definitely want to try out more juicing stuff this year. It sounds so healthy, and everyone is raving about it. I just have to figure out which recipe to start with. The combinations sound infinite.

Any workout tips to get us back in shape after the Holidays?

I am definitely going to start that yoga routine again. I did feel much better when I did the yoga. If I can just convince the cats that jumping on me when I stretch out isn’t what they should be doing. You would think they would understand the need for stretching since they do it all the time.

What is your favorite thing you did over the Holidays?

There were so many great things that happened over the holidays, but I think the one thing other than spending time with loved ones was going to HollyPop, and the annual lighting of the Santa downtown with my friend Gloria. It was so cold which I normally hate, but it was so fun to see so many people milling around downtown. There are never that many people out and about downtown.

What is something you hope that you accomplish in 2014 that you did not in 2013?

I am really plan on this being the year that I get organized. Yes, my friends are laughing. But I did have a good start in the spring this year, and somehow I lost my way on this massive project. So 2014 is the year that I get things in order!

Name 3 things happening this year you are excited about and why?

Well, I’m really excited about that organization thing. It’s going to make a lot of things easier once I do it. So that’s one thing I’m excited about. I’m really excited that my parents are moving closer to me. I can actually go see them on a regular basis, instead of trying to scrounge up the money for a trip once a year. And I’m really excited about some plans for my blog. After I reviewed my posts from last year, I came up with some pretty cool ideas. And I can’t wait to share them with everyone.

Hemy & Marshal Rise and Fall

The Australians really seem to be producing great music recently, and Hemy & Marshall are the latest addition to the recent activity down under. Hemy & Marshall’s soon to be released EP Rise & Fall is great to listen to on the cold winter evenings we are experiencing now. That doesn’t mean that all of the music is slow paced, it means that the combination of thoughtful lyrics and a great sound make you feel relaxed.

Their sound has a little bit of a pop sound, with a soulful feel. The song World I Live is a song that will brighten your spirits during this winter. The melody is catchy, and you will want to sing along, and get something done at home.  Just because it’s catchy doesn’t mean that the song is fluff. The lyrics are about not wasting time, but enjoying the moments you live in. That’s pretty valuable advice. After all what is life without enjoying the moments we live in?

The song Rise and Fall made me think of all of those times when I felt kind of stuck in a situation. You know the times when you would do just about anything to get out of a situation. There are so many times in life that we all feel that way. And I really enjoyed the use of piano in this song. It just seemed to make the song stand apart from other songs.

It’s not just luck that has allowed the three musicians from Hemy & Marshall to craft great music. Each of the musicians started playing instruments as children. They developed their talents, and spent hours practicing as a group. Then they decided it’s not enough to just practice, they needed to play live. So they have spent time doing regular live radio shows, and gigs throughout venues in Australia. And of course they spent time recording the EP. So these guy have been working hard. And their EP sounds great.

Rise and Fall is definitely music that should be added to a mature music listeners collection. I hope that the music makes it to the States and receives airplay because the musicians certainly deserve it. Make sure you check out their music, and let me know what you think of it.
