So we all know that blueberries are wonderful, and chia seeds are super healthy. So when you combine the two of them you get an easy blueberry chia spread.

Here's What You Need

3 Tbsp water
2 cups of blueberries
1 Tbsp lemon juice
4 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp vanilla

Here's What You Do

Combine the chia seeds and water and let them soak.

Next mash up the blueberries in a pan with a large spoon. Add the lemon juice and honey and allow it to simmer for 5 minutes or so.

Now stir in the vanilla.

The Power of New Shoes

This week turned out to be pretty great. I learned that the power of new shoes can make a day complete.

Being able to go shopping for shoes with a friend. Even though we didn't get to spend a lot of time together, because I had to run off to work. I did get a couple pairs of fantastic shoes. One pair for work, and another pair for play. Twinkle Toes shoes are so cute!

Realizing that having really small feet is a blessing at times. I can actually buy shoes in the children's department. They are cheaper and well they are way more fun than a lot of adult shoes.
And then realizing my cat was just as happy that I got new shoes because he now has a box to sit in.
I learned that wearing my new shoes made my feet hurt a lot less. Hurray!
I learned that the power of new shoes can really help you decide to let it go when someone is totally inconsiderate to you.
Isn't the power of new shoes great?

Camera Shy

Camera Shy by Raye

I know that I am beautiful. I am not afraid to let everybody else know it either, but there are days when a lady must be a little camera shy. It creates more of a mystery about yourself. This was one of those days. I absolutely refused to pose for the camera, even though I know how photogenic I am. I must maintain some standards, and I must not let humans believe that they can photograph me whenever they please. When I want my picture taken I will always let humans know by posing for them. Do any other felines have issues with pet humans taking their pictures constantly?

Sometimes It Takes a Tragedy

Sometimes it takes a tragedy for all of us to finally open our eyes and ears to what is going on around us. In the past couple of weeks one of these tragedies occurred. A young man went to a church service with the sole purpose of murdering individuals. I don't know what many of you thought when you first heard the news about the shootings that occurred in Charleston this month, but one of my initial thoughts was what is wrong with people? I also thought is there any place that is safe? I felt sad and angry about the incident.

Over the past week quite a few things have happened. There have been discussions over gun control and racism that always follow these tragedies. And low and behold the state of South Carolina has decided to stop flying the Confederate flag over the state capitol. I wasn't surprised when I heard this, but I wondered why after years of debate over this issue in the state it suddenly became the solution to this tragedy. I wondered why after years of calls for the state to lower that flag this incident had to be the decisive event.

And this is what I've decided. We simply aren't listening to each other. For years individuals have stated that there are symbols of hatred that we have control over. Unfortunately, the issue was debated, and individuals felt that it wasn't worth the hassle of removing it from the state capitol. And now nine individuals are dead, and it is something that needs to happen. Do I think that the removal of this flag at an earlier point in time would have stopped the recent tragedy? It may or may not have. I don't think the issues surrounding this event are quite that simple. But I do believe that a simple act at an earlier time would have sent a strong message out to individuals that we are willing to deal with our past.

I often hear individuals state that people are making a big deal out of racial issues. The problem with this statement is that the issues are important to the individuals who are saying there are issues. And therefore it is a big deal!

So I guess the point of this post is will it really take another tragedy for me and you to listen to what individuals are really trying to say?

Questions That Matter

Every once and a while you have a question that really matters in life. Well maybe it matters, or maybe it's just one of those things you wonder about. So here is the question that matters for today.

Don't Even Say It

So someone drops a verbal bomb on you. They tell you something that just makes you angry. So many things come through your mind. You see images of the road runner and the coyote from the Looney Tunes cartoons. You know the one where the anvil falls on the coyotes head.

You think of a million things to say to that person who has dropped a verbal bomb on you. And then something says to you don't even say it.
Yep, it happened to me yesterday afternoon. I was at work, thinking that the work week was winding down. I wasn't going to have to work on Sunday. And then I was talking to my boss. She was telling me some things that were going on in the company. She was explaining to me that is why my co-worker and I were working tomorrow. Wait a minute! Nobody told me I was working tomorrow. She informed me that my supervisor was supposed to have told me earlier. Um, well no they didn't. My initial urge was to tell her you are the rudest and stupidest person on the planet! And I'm not doing that. Then that voice said don't even say it! So I took a deep breath and went outside for a couple of minutes. I felt that now was not the time to voice the feelings I had. I decided that there had to be another place to voice my emotions. And well this is the place for today.
Hope you all have a great day!

You Know Your Week Has Been Awesome When

There are many things that make a week great, but here are a few things that have just made my week awesome.

The co-worker I've been filling in for the past two months will be returning to work on Tuesday. Yay! There will be another set of hands to help get the work finished. And hopefully, a break in some of the overtime.

Driving down the road and seeing a lady in a car shaking her head and moving her mouth. She was obviously happy! I think she was singing and dancing to the music on the radio.

Spending time working in my yard. Yes, I have been busy. And I have had to work a lot, but this week I have had some time to go out to work in the yard. Yes, the jungle may actually get under control.
The absolute look of devotion my cats gives me when he jumps up in my lap to sit with me. Yes, it feels good to know that someone just wants me to spend time with him. The only thing he wants is my attention, and he is happy! Wouldn't it be nice if it was that easy to please everyone we know?

So what has made your week awesome?

Captain's Homemade Chicken and Catnip Snack

This is Captain blogging today, and well my pet human baked a chicken the other day. Most of you don't know it, but I love chicken. Next to catnip and tuna it is my favorite. As my pet human was preparing the chicken I got very excited. And I announced that I was glad that we were having chicken for dinner. I also noticed that there was this little bag that my pet removed. I thought to myself what is that? I figured out that it was the giblets. So that's when I had an idea. Why not cook those giblets? They would make a tasty snack for me. So that is what we did. I supervised my pet human as she put them in a pot to boil. Oh, they smelled delightful. My mouth began to water. So once these giblets were finished, I informed my pet that we needed to add a little something else. Here's the recipe I developed.

Captain's Homemade Chicken and Catnip Snack

Here's what you need
chicken giblets
1/4 cup of chicken broth
1 tbsp. chicken fat
2 Tbsp. catnip
Here's what you do
Combine all of the items in a food processor, and blend well. Then serve in a fancy bowl that will please your feline.
I hope that all of you enjoy this recipe, and please feel free to tell me what you think of cooking?

Summer Is

Summer is full of little things that are so enjoyable. Summer is my absolute favorite time of the year.
Here are some of the things that make summer so great for me.

Being able to open the door and windows up in the house to get some fresh air. It just feels better to have the windows open through part of the day.

It's the great feeling of being able to walk outside barefoot. The feel of the grass on your feet, especially in the morning when it is still a little damp.
Seeing all the bright colors, and wondering just how many shades of yellow are there?
And summer is the time that you realize that things grow even though you wish they would slow down a little.
And it's time to spend time under the stars and watching a movie at the drive in. You might even learn a few Drive In Life Lessons.
And most importantly it's time to spend time with great people and make some great memories.

Road Trips

I was driving in my car the other day. It wasn't a road trip, but I was wondering why we all love road trips so much. Yes, there is the fact that you will see new places. There is the other fact that you are looking for a good time. But as I was driving down the road I looked through my mirror. And I thought. With a road trip the road behind is a memory, and the road in front of us is a memory waiting to happen. So I hope everyone is able to make loads of memories on the road trips they take this summer.

Vegetable Korma

Every once and a while you want something that is different from the norm. Vegetable Korma is a healthy meal that could be what you are looking for. It's easy to prepare and it utilizes some spices that give it a little exotic taste. So it's like traveling to foreign place while you're eating.

Indian Recipes

Here's What You Need

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 purple onion diced
1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
3 tablespoons minced garlic
2 red potatoes diced
1/2 cup water
1 cup tomato sauce
2 tablespoons curry powder
1 package of frozen vegetables
1 cup coconut milk

Here's What You Do

Add the oil to a pan, saute the onion, then add the ginger garlic and potatoes. Then add the water, tomato sauce, and the curry powder. And bring it to a simmer. Stir and cover cook for another 6 to 8 minutes. Add the mixed vegetables and coconut milk and simmer for another 5 to 10 minutes.

Serve it with naan or basmati rice. I used  Stonefire Tandoor Naan. It was a great pairing.

Now all you have to do is put on a Bollywood movie and enjoy your Vegetable Korma. My suggestion is Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. It's in Hindi so you have to read the dialogue.

Love curry then check out this recipe

Those Blue Lines

Think about what life might be like for a person who must use a wheelchair.  What are some of the challenges that person must deal with? We all know there are plenty. But I don't think that we all realize how dependent many individuals are on others doing what they need to do in life. This is where those blue lines come in.

You see I was talking with a friend a few weeks ago. She told me about her friend who is in a wheelchair. She explained how angry he gets when people park in the space left for handicap accessible vans. You see those blue lines are there for a reason. Those blue lines are there so that individuals with lifts on their vans can lower their lift, and then maneuver their wheelchair to the ground.
I thought about reasons why a person would park in between those blue lines. I thought do people know the purpose of those blue lines? I'd be willing to be bet there are many who don't. I believe that most people aren't insensitive they are simply ignorant. And ignorant doesn't mean stupid.
The second reason someone would park in between those lines is a lack of connection. It's hard for us to understand how difficult life can be for individuals who are a little dependent on others in order to maintain their independence.  For most of us getting out of a vehicle is a simple task. We simply open the car door, unbuckle the seat belt and then we stand up. But there are those individuals who require a little more time and space. There are those individuals who need a little more space in order to exit their vehicle.
How does it feel when you go to park your car and there is enough room to park the car, but not enough room to open the door and get out? I wonder if that is how these individuals feel. But you see we can drive to another parking spot. The problem for these individuals is there isn't another place for them to go and park. So the next time you see those blue lines just keep in mind they aren't a parking place. They are a way for some individuals to exit their vehicles.

Unexpected Beauty

Do you ever have days when things are just a little routine? You're bored and looking for a little change. Nothing big, but something to make the day just a little different than the one before. This week has been a slight break in the crazy schedule I've had recently. I decided that it was time for me to take a closer look at some things around me instead of just running around not seeing what is going on in life.

I remembered a spot I went to last year. You wouldn't have expected there to be so many flowers there, but it was a small area near a parking lot that was full of wildflowers. I returned to the area to see what was there, and I was surprised that there are still loads of flowers. And there were even a few roses. Here are a few of the flowers I saw.

Hope you have a great day and make sure you take time to smell the roses.

I Have a Name

Yes, I have wormed my way to the human's life. And I have a name. Yes, I have been working on getting this human's attention for months. My name is Raye.

I knew when I first saw this human that she would eventually soften up toward me. I knew that if I looked at her with the pathetic look she would feed me. When she is out working in the yard. I make sure that I am spending quality time with her. I run out from the bushes when she arrives home to greet her, and of course wait for my bowl of food to be filled. I rub against her legs when she is outside working in the yard. And of course I make sure she knows just how beautiful I am. I mean who could resist the pose above? It says I am adorable. I know that I will soon move into the big house. It is just a matter of time. In the mean time I am enjoying my time running free through the grass. I am free to chase birds. I know that I will miss these things when I move into the big house, but hey there is a price to pay for everything isn't there?

Easy No Cook Apricot Jam

Yes, I have to admit it. I really like apricots. Maybe it's the great combination of sweet and sour taste they have. Or maybe it's because we always had apricots around the house when I was growing up. My dad loved them and snacked on them frequently. Anyway, I wanted some jam, and when I looked around the house this is what I came up with. This is an easy way to prepare a jam that tastes great.

What You Need

18 oz of dried apricots
2 cups of apple juice
1 cup of honey
1 fresh lemon
1 Tablespoon cinnamon

Here's What You Do

Soak your apricots in the apple juice overnight. The next day add your remaining ingredients and run it through a food processor. It's that easy.

Did you know that dried apricots are a great source of iron. But since they are high in sugar make sure you brush your teeth after eating them.
