Dear Mr. Strauss

Dear Mr. Strauss

I'm writing to you today to tell you thank you so much for inventing or financing the creation of blue jeans. I've read a couple different stories about how blue jeans came about, and I have to admit that I am a little confused. I'm not sure whether it was your idea or Mr. Davis' idea to make a pair of durable pants out of canvas. I guess it really doesn't matter at this point in time. You get the credit most of the time. But I do want you to know how good an idea it was.
I want you to know that I am really glad that you decided to change the color of your creation from a canvas brown to blue. You were right it does hide the dirt much better. And I bet you would be surprised to know that I don't think that I know anyone who doesn't own a pair of blue jeans. And well as you can see in the picture below they come in all sizes shapes and shades of blue anymore.
So once again thanks for the great invention.  Without it my life just wouldn't be the same.

Reef Libre

Reef Libre is the a new book by Robert Winter. When I was offered the opportunity to review this book I really excited. The complete title of the book is Reef Libre Cuba The Last Best Reefs in the World . The book is non-fiction and it comes along with a dvd about Cuba's coral reefs.

The Story

This book is the story of Robert Winter's visit to Cuba in order to see the coral reef's of the area. Cuba is an unusual area because it's reefs have been protected due to a lack of commercialization. Yes, politics have played in favor of the reefs of Cuba. Since there has been little development and little industrial activity, the negative effects of these two activities have not been felt in the reef area. The result Cuba has some of the greatest remaining reefs in the world.
The book begins at the beginning of the authors journey and he explains the challenges an American can face entering Cuba. He leads us through his experience as a tourist in a country that has few tourists. And he explains the challenges that Cuba's reefs may face in the future. The book has beautiful pictures, and they don't only show what the reefs look like. The pictures also show what life in Cuba is like.
The dvd that accompanies the book is also well shot, and it highlights many points from the book. But of course it is mostly undersea. It's a chance for those of us who won't get to visit Cuba to view the beauty of their reefs.

What I Liked

I absolutely loved the pictures in this book. Like I said they are beautiful. I also liked that the author took us through the entire journey of visiting Cuba. I've always believed that good books take us to places we may never have the chance to visit. And this book does that. And the video really does this. I also liked that the book brought out one of those Oh, yeah moments in my life. While I knew before that the tropical aquarium trade was harmful to the world's coral reefs, it was while I was reading this book that I really understood just how it has devastated many reefs. I also learned just how important sharks are to the health of reefs. I liked how that the dvd used showed so many of the fish in the reef. And it was done professionally. This isn't a regular tourist shooting photos. This was someone who actually knew what reefs should look like.

What I Didn't Like

Actually, while I loved that there were photos from the authors entire experience in Cuba. I wish that there had been more pictures of the fish. There were loads of them, but you can never get enough of a good thing right? Overall, I really liked reading this book. The author is knowledgeable and the book is wonderful to look at.

Who Will Like This Book?

The first group of people that will enjoy this book are individuals who are concerned about environmental issues. The author explains some of the issues that revolve around the coral reefs in the world today. And his visiting Cuba shows just how successful eliminating the tropical fish trade can be in maintaining a healthy reef system. This isn't the only issue he addresses though. The next group of people who might enjoy this book are those who enjoy diving and visiting areas under water. The photos are beautiful, and I'm sure that many individuals will add Cuba to their dream dive destinations after they read this book.
You can watch the video to learn more about the book and dvd.

Three Blogs Worth Reading

The blogs that we spend reading reflect what we are interested in. The blogs that we spend time reading are the ones that shape some of the posts that we will share. They are often models for what we would like our blogs to become. So here are three blogs worth reading.

Frillycakes which is put out by Saija Sasetar. She doesn't post that often, like maybe weekly, but when she does I absolutely love the outfits she puts together. She pulls out steampunk outfits, and the cutest dresses. If you like kawaii or just a different take on fashion check out her blog.
Gingerlillytea is put out by Keri-Ann. Her blog has that dreamy romantic feel to it. You know walks in the country, great DIY projects, adorable children. And well I really envy her photography skills. Her pics are always amazing. It's worth a look.
God's Growing Garden is hosted by Angie. And I love her blog because it's all about gardening. Everyday she posts something relating to growth. Most of it is gardening, but she has a lot of other interesting things. But what I really like about her blog is that she is all about encouraging others to grow in their personal life. And she also encourages others to grow their blogs. And if you love giveaways she usually has some fairly good ones.
So are the blogs I like to check out on a regular basis. Who do you visit regularly?

That Ghoul On The Porch

Halloween is only a couple of days away. And well there are those last minute decorations that need to be put up. It needs to be inexpensive and easy. I mean it's only for a couple of days right? So what do you do? The ghoul on the porch is the answer.

Here's What You Need

A white sheet
Black felt
A glue gun
A piece of string

Here's What You Do

Cut three circles out of your felt.
Now take that glue gun and glue those circles on the sheet.
Take that sheet and place it on a porch light with the felt facing forward.  Not directly on the bulb though.
Next take a string a tie it below the light.

And now you have an inexpensive Halloween decoration.

Wake Up Wednesday Linky Party 92

I just got off of work and well there is so much to think about how I am going to spend my two days off. Yes, I do believe I have a great work schedule at the moment. I work for two days, and then I get two off. Then I work for two days, and then I have another day off. I'm loving it! I feel like I really can relax and enjoy life. But now that I have all this time, I have to think about how I am going to enjoy it. So I enjoy thinking on Tuesday night about all the things I can do. I know it's silly! And I know I keep talking about having time off. But really you don't know how wonderful it is until you have had a period when your work schedule is so hectic that you don't have time to think.
Enough about that. It's time for another party! Link up and enjoy!

I am a fudge connoisseur. I love a good little piece of fudge. My love of fudge began years ago when every Fall, my mom would make her famous White Fudge, sometimes it would turn out perfect; other times it would not and we'd be eating it out of the pan with a spoon.

I am super excited about this treat that is perfect for Halloween or Thanksgiving, yes that is creeping up pretty quickly..... only 7 ingredients...seasonal simplicity!

Have you ever had a project that you needed to complete but it hung over your head like homework that you dreaded?   Yikes, I so did with a vintage table that I found for a song. I “thought” I couldn’t pass it up. It had great potential, a perfect candidate for a makeover, but what it lacked was it didn’t speak to me. Yup, that’s right. Items speak to me.  Somehow I get a feeling or a connection to an item that it wants to come home with me.

Healthy, vegan bagels with a savory herb flavor! These bagels are whole grain and they toast up to crispy perfection. The perfect accompaniment to breakfast, lunch, or even an afternoon snack. Spread with your favorite cream cheese or humus and enjoy a bite of dense, doughy bite of bread deliciousness.

If you enjoy creepy yet delicious, make-you-cringe desserts at Halloween time, then these Peanut Butter Fingers are for you!  Made with NEW Peter Pan Simply Ground peanut butter, these yummy pretzel treats are sure to spook the Halloween party guests or the kids for their after-school snack!

It is an outrage the number of jars and plastic containers we have to discard every day in a house. I’m keeping them because I like to re-use them, you can always find a different use that what they already had without having to go through a recycling center. The other day I started to sort them by size to try to gain some space and suddenly I had an idea.

Pumpkin Spice Frappuccinos are all the rage this season, but the price doesn’t exactly work for me. That’s why I came up with this delicious Copycat Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino recipe. I am not a coffee drinker, but I do have a weakness for Starbucks.

Inspired by a fall favorite, these bundts have all the trimmings! A java infused cake is speckled with spiced apples, then cloaked in white chocolate, grated chocolate and a caramel drizzle.

In addition to the fact that most conventional candy contains huge amounts of white sugar
or high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and flavors, and many other unhealthy additives
and ingredients.
