Floral Snapshots

For the past couple of years, I've visited the same spot to take pictures of some of the flowers. It's a spot I would never have thought to visit before I just came upon it by chance one day. I'm always surprised at the diversity of flowers that are in a field next to a parking lot. It's one of those fields nobody has mowed in years. And you know what? I'm glad they don't mow it. It's really a beautiful spot. It's kind of a silence in the hubbub that is going on all around it.

Wake Up Wednesday Linky Party 127

It's Wednesday morning. This week has been an interesting week. It's been a week when I have been thinking about individuals who seem to accomplish so many things. I have wondered how do they get everything accomplished. I know people who have kids, run a business, and somehow manage to do so many things they really enjoy doing. I feel like I have to store everything I really enjoy doing to a day off so many times. And then the day off is gone before I know it. And there was so much more that I wanted to accomplish. And this week I have really been missing the position I had where I only worked four days a week. I felt like I had just a little more time to do all of those things that I enjoy. How do all of you find time to do all of the things you really enjoy doing?

Homemade Sandwich Bread Variation: Oatmeal
~Taylor-Made Homestead~

Well y’all already know that I make an effort to supply my handsome RancherMan with his favorite Homemade Sandwich Bread, he loves it so much more than the commercial stuff and I feel good knowing that my bread is filled with only natural ingredients I recognize and can pronounce.  Plus DANG, the lazy-girl er, I mean efficient side of me loves that my *KitchenAid Mixer makes it so much easier!  But I find myself lately with an extra supply of oatmeal and although I’m using often with both hot, hearty Flavored Oatmeal as well as my own Homemade Pumpkin Granola for breakfasts,

Antique Chair Spindle Wooden Garden Caddy
The Interior Frugalista

It's time for the monthly Power Tool Challenge and the theme this month is Summer. In the March challenge, I shared how I turned an Antique Chair Back into a Bird Feeder. Well for this month's challenge I dug back into my bucket of chair parts to inspire me for this project. My project this month is an Antique Chair Spindle Wooden Garden Caddy.

Chocolate French Toast with Peanut Butter
Flavours & Frosting

Let´s face it guys, how can you go wrong with chocolate french toast smothered with peanut butter and chocolate spread..?

You just can´t! YUM Yum Yum!

Melting S'mores Pie
Lamberts Lately

I got the idea to try it last summer after s'mores became kind of the "in flavor" (it seems like every season has one of those lately).  When I get an idea for a blog post that isn't scheduled for a specific day yet, I just jot it down in a list on my to-do list app (that way, I have kind of a bank of ideas to look through when I need a post).

Doesn't it feel great when you know you've inspired someone?

At the height of my career, I had a staff of 50 people.
In the most basic terms, my job was to make sure the work got done.
But, really, the most important thing was to inspire them --
to do their best possible work...

Are you outside with your kids for about an hour before you realize you forgot sunscreen? Guilty! Or, perhaps, you are super attentive and put it on before heading out, but forget to reapply after a while. No matter your individual scenario, there is a giant likelihood you are making these 5 mistakes when applying sunscreen to your kids (and even yourself).

Cherry-O Cream Cheese Pie is a luscious mixture of cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and vanilla extract poured into a graham cracker pie crust and topped with cherry pie filling. The recipe for Cherry-O Cream Cheese Pie is quick, easy to prepare, and there’s no cooking or baking required!

The Life We Never Expected

Parents of children with special needs face enormous challenges. They face a different journey in life than many parents. But it doesn't mean that it's a bad journey. It's just a different one than they expected. In their new book Rachel and Andrew Wilson tell their story of parenting children with special needs.

The Story

In this book the authors are honest about their emotions about dealing with the life of a parent who has a child with special needs. They expected children who were going to be what the world calls normal, but they received children who were different from the norm. They question why this has happened to them. And how they have to deal with coming up with different expectations for their children due to their special needs.

What I Liked

I liked that these parents were honest. They were honest enough to say that they were disappointed when they found out their children had autism. I used to work with individuals with special needs. I always found that the families loved their children unconditionally. They supported their children. All children require effort, but there comes a time when most children become more independent. And for some parents of children with special needs that doesn't happen.

I didn't feel like these parents were complaining. And it reminded me that individuals with disabilities are a gift to the world. They teach us one of the great lessons in life. They teach us the great lesson of compassion.

Who Should Read This Book

Parents with children with disabilities will probably enjoy this book. And individuals who work with disabilities can benefit from what these parents have to tell the world.

I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for this book, but the opinions are all mine.
