Almond Butter Bark

I have a sweet tooth. It gets me in trouble sometimes. In an effort to eat a little more healthy I have been looking for my healthy ways to keep my sweet tooth under control. And this almond bark is one great way to meet that craving for sweets.

Here's What You Need

1/3 cup coconut oil, melted
1/4 cup almond butter
2 teaspoons chia seeds
1/3 cup granola
2 Tablespoons honey
1/3 cup chocolate chips
1 teaspoon sea salt

Here's What You Do

Mix the coconut oil, almond butter, and honey in a bowl. Then stir in the granola, chia seeds and salt. Place in a pan and spread it out evenly. Top it off with the chocolate chips. Place it in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Take it out and break it into pieces. Make sure you store it in the refrigerator if it is left out it will melt.

DIY Patriotic Garland

Sometimes you go thrifting and there is something you spot that you know you need, but your not sure what you need it for. When I saw the red white and blue ornaments at the thrift store I wasn't sure how they were going to be used, but I knew they would be used for something.

Here's What You Need

Glue Stick
Cupcake Papers

Here's What You Do

Color your cupcake papers red white and blue. Fold them in half. Next tie your ornaments to the string. In between the ornaments place the papers over the string and glue the paper. Next hang your garland.

Sovereignty By Anjenique Hughes

I really love books that tell about how society may look in the future. So when I had the opportunity to review the book Sovereignty by Anjenique Hughes I jumped on the chance.

The Story

The 23rd century is different from the world we know today. There is a world government that controls individuals through a chip which is implanted in babies. Goro is the main character and he wants things to change. As he and his friends seek out a revolution they desire to find out who has real sovereignty.

What I Liked

I really enjoyed reading this book. The world that exists is a possibility. There are always questions about how technology could be used the wrong way. And good books fantasy or sci-fi books make us wonder what the future could be like. I like how the author brings up the question about what happens if chips are implanted into humans. There are individuals who are tinkering with identity chips that unlock doors and download information to their phones. So the premise of the book with each individual having a chip implanted after birth has a real science base. And I really like that.

I also liked that the book has action. There are twists and turns. And you never know exactly what to expect.

Who Should Read This Book

This book is aimed at young adults. But I think that individuals of all ages who enjoy books about what the future could look like would enjoy this book. But keep in mind that there is violence and the use of profanity in this book. If you are sensitive to this you are warned.

The Author

Sovereignty is the first book by author Anjenique Hughes. You can learn more about her by visiting her website and following her through social media.

Wake Up Wednesday Linky Party 131

I don't know if I've shared this with everyone before, but one of my secret pleasures is napping. And the best naps are the naps I take are the ones that take place during the hours I am normally at work. I'm not talking about napping at work. I'm talking about on my day off. I just feel good when I am able to sleep. I think about ha I am normally at work during this time, but now I am able to sleep. I just feel like I've gotten away with something. It's one of those weird little pleasures, but think about the next time you have a day off and take a nap. It makes you feel pretty good.

It's summertime here and MAN IS IT HOT OUTSIDE!

Deep Roots at Home
My heart is breaking for the souls of our children. I am thinking there might be a negative reaction from readers on this topic. I need to speak the truth, for what is the use of a blog if not to influence our culture? Please do not confuse this with me thinking I have all the answers. I know I don’t, but there is trouble already in the making.

Today is Thrift Store Decor Day and the drawer was a thrifty find from my favorite thrift/junk store. I was using it to hold those small bottles of acrylic paint but it was better than that. Those bottles can sit in a box.

Blueberry Bread Pudding Recipe
You Brew My Tea

This Blueberry Bread Pudding Recipe is one that comes from my long standing love of bread pudding, and my desire to somehow make it appear to be a healthier dessert by adding fruit into it.  Okay, so admittedly this is just totally not healthy in the least, but I love the combination of adding blueberries that I already love to the favorite flavors of bread pudding.

Cooking in Stilettos

I absolutely love whipping up a quick bread for brunch – it’s easy to make and no need for me to face my irrational fear of all things yeast breads and the “OMG will it rise” conundrum.  One day I’ll face that baking bread from scratch fear – just not now.  I love that a quick bread comes together somewhat fast and for something that inspires me to turn on the oven in this summer heatwave, you know it has to be a recipe that is so worth me braving the heat (and the AC bills).

Whole Food : Real Families

There are times when you just don’t feel good about showing up empty handed. For example, when my neighbors invite us over to a barbeque. Or we’re invited for dinner with work friends for the first time. Maybe it is my southern upbringing, but when you know someone is going out of their way to be kind to you and your family, showing up with something in your hands to contribute to the table just feels right
