Making Get Togethers Easy

This time of year everyone is having get togethers with family and friends. Here’s a few simple things you can do to make them a little easier.

Simple Coolers

Summer is the time when fruit is plentiful. Use it to make tasty fresh and cool simple drinks. Grab some lemons to make lemonade, or you can use strawberries and blueberries along with some coconut water to make a healthy drink for everyone at your get together.

Tags

Ever been to a party and you’re confused about which drinks are yours, so you just go get another glass to drink out of. Reduce the odds of this happening by picking up some rubber bands, Manila tags and a sharpie. This will allow guests to write their names on the tags and mark their drinking cup.

Easy Bake

Terra cotta is an easy baking container. And a new one is extremely cheap. And it will add a decorative flair to your get together. Add some olive oil, olives and feta cheese. Bake this mixture at 350 degrees in the oven until the cheese turns brown. You can serve it in the terra cotta container.

Try these out and let me know how they work for you.

How To Ruin A Diet

Have you ever really tried to change your eating habits? I mean the doctor is always saying you need to eat healthy and exercise. Sometimes it seems like a waste of time to go to the doctor because they just repeat themselves over and over. They are kind of like a broken record if you want to know the truth. But after a visit to the doctor, I decided I need to do at least some of what he says.

I begin eating healthier. I am eating salads and cutting back on the fatty foods. I am proud of myself. I am doing so well. Then I go out to eat with a friend. I plan on staying away from fried food. Then my friend  says the thing that is a sure fire way to ruin a diet.

Wanna share some cheese fries?

You're The Star Blog Hop

Man, the heat has been turned on outside. It is over ninety degrees. And well it is making me wish for a swimming pool. I keep thinking wouldn't it be great to just dive into a cool pool of water? And for some reason swimming pools are just part of summer. It reminds me of all those summers as a child spending time at a pool. But now I know that I really should wear a lot of sunscreen to avoid the sunburns I got as a child.

The Sky Has Bright Fluffiness Floating Through It

Have you ever looked up and saw that the sky has bright fluffiness floating through it? Today I looked up and noticed that fluffiness. It was what I needed.

The past couple of days I have been with some situations that have frustrated me. People in my personal life, and people I work with. For some reason even though I know it isn’t that important life has frustrated me.

But today I looked up, and remembered that life is beautiful. And I need to remember to enjoy all it has to offer.

Today I am Thankful For

I realized it is time for me to share some of the great things in my life. Someone told me recently that I was rich because of the money I earn at y job. They were partially correct. I am rich in many ways, and I am thankful for all of them.

I am totally thankful for all the beautiful flowers in my garden. My hard work is paying off, and I do have a colorful garden. And somehow there are a few surprises that have come my way in that garden. I had a few more plants survive that long period where I didn't do much out there. Lilies are an awesome plant. They are total survivors.

I am thankful for all of the individuals over the course of my life who have encouraged me to take chances. Even if they are kind of foolish ones. You never get anything in life if you don't try do you?

I am thankful that my dad in particular taught me to be a positive thinker. He encouraged us to say positive things so that we would receive positive things. If you haven't tried it you should it does work.

Thrift stores, I love them. How would I do anything in life without them. I love shopping in bulk. But the flipside is that I am able to give back a lot quicker because I find so man fabulous things in those shops.

I am so thankful that the colonoscopy experience is over for awhile. While it wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to me. It wasn't the most fun thing either.

What are you thankful for today?

Revive Don’t Replace

Garbage is an issue. We live in a world where it might be less expensive to buy something new than to fix what you have. If you have any doubts about this go see what people put in their trash.  Here’s a few ideas to reduce that trash heap, and maybe save yourself a few dollars.

Them shoes

Your favorite pair of shoes are looking a little worn. Don’t get rid of them just yet. It is possible to take those run down soles to be reconditioned. It’s way cheaper than a new pair of boots. And you get to keep wearing those comfortable boots. Another trick you can use is to rub a banana peel on the leather. It’s a cheap way to shine your shoes.

Coats and Jackets

We all have a favorite, but one day you just get tired of the way it looks. You can replace the buttons on it to give it a new look, or you can try those patches that are so popular right now.

Shirts

Have you ever had a favorite shirt that just starts to look grungy? There’s those stains on the armpits. You can get rid of those discolorations by combining one part Castile soap with two parts hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit then soak it in cold water for an hour. Then you can send it through the was. The shirt will look fresh again.

What ideas do you have to revive items instead of replacing them.

The Gerber Daisies

Has anyone had the experience where they want more flowers for their garden, but you don’t want to break the bank to get it? That was me the other day. I decided to go to Lowe’s because they always have a clearance rack with flowers. And I scored big. They had hanging baskets of Gerber Daisies. The plants had already bloomed once. But real gardens know that all you have to do is dead head the flowers. So these are some of the flowers I picked up.

You’re The Star Blog Hop

A new week has rolled around. I have been waiting for this week for the past few weeks. There has been anticipation, and it finally arrived. They finally hired new people where I work. Yep, we have all been working overtime for quite a while. Yes, it's nice to have some extra money occasionally, but get real. I want the extra time. So relief has arrived and I am so happy about it.

My Dating Profile Says

Have you ever read people’s dating profiles? Some of them are humorous, and some of them are downright sad. I have this friend who used to go through sites and pick apart dating profiles for fun. That’s not quite my style, but I do have to admit reading profiles can be entertaining.

Here’s a couple of profiles I’ve read recently that caught my eye and why.

I hope your standards are lower than mine.

At first I thought it was cute. But then I thought there may be a powerful message in this profile. I thought this guy is looking for someone who will give him everything he wants, and he wants to give little in exchange. This may not be a healthy relationship. It’s a pass.

Run, Just Run, Now!

If you’re looking for some sort of adventure this might be the profile to check out. If you are looking for something less complicated follow the writers advice.

Searching for my next ex

This guy says exactly what he is looking for. Yeah, he is looking for a short term relationship. If you want something else move on.

Honestly, I don’t have a dating profile. It just seems like to much work for me right now.

Hobnobben Film Festival

I’ve always wanted to attend a film festival. I always thought it would be Cannes or Sundance, but my community hosts a film festival each spring. The Hobnobben Film Festival takes place each June in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It’s only been running for three years, but as we all know, new can be pretty good.

The festival needed volunteers. You got a t-shirt and a free movie ticket in exchange for a shift. I thought that’s a good deal. So I got my shirt and ticket. And I enjoyed the festivities.

My favorite film of the festival was actually a short film. The title was making a movie. In less than ten minutes the creator of this film showed just how frustrating it is to make a quality film. And it was funny. I also liked a film called Antiquated. It was a short film that showed just how a movie can be scary without the use of gore.

Of course there were loads of other films to see, but I had to work.

So film nerds make sure you check out the Hobnobben Film Festival you won’t be disappointed.

June Goals 2018

It's a week into June, and I haven't posted any goals. So it's time. Here is a look at what I accomplished last month. And a look at what I want to accomplish next month.

My first goal for May was to finish that DIY dress. I did it! If You check out my post The Unicorn Dress. You can see the DIY project. But here is the finished project.

I also wanted to go through some items for a yard sale. This was accomplished, and I even got them in a friends sale. Isn't that awesome! The goal was accomplished! Yay, me!

I also went on a great cemetery crawl. We went to the National cemetery in Marion, Indiana. I went with a friend who is also a huge fan of cemeteries, and she is kind of a history buff too. If you are ever in Marion you should check out the cemetery. There is a great civil war monument there.

I did read more than I was the month before, but not as much as I wanted to. Life just gets so busy sometimes. But progress was made.

June Goals

Goal number one is to get that car cleaned out. How does it get so trashed? I mean really I do empty things out of it, but all of the sudden it looks like I am living in it. This month. I want to get it cleaned out, and of course I really need to vacuum and clean the windows. It's going to happen.

The second goal is to finish that Teddy Bear I started working on. It is getting there, but not quite what I want yet. It will be adorable when it is finished. And I need it for an upcoming sale.

Goal number three is edit my blog. I need to do some serious editing. I mean I need to update some posts, and the pages. It's gonna happen this month.

There is a museum I really want to visit. I visited it a few years ago. But I want to go again. It's a cool place, and well I need to make a return. This is the month!

So what are all of you planning to do this month?

Saving The Bees

I came home the other day, and there was a dead bumblebee on the sidewalk. I thought to myself there’s one less bee in the world. I wondered if that lone bee knew just how important he was to all of u. In case you’ve had your head buried for the past few years, the bee population is declining much faster than it should be. There are lots of theories about the cause. It all seems fairly complicated. And I don’t think anyone really knows why. But one thing everyone agrees on is that it is a problem.

Since most of the property east of the Mississippi is owned by private individuals, it is up to the general population to help out those little busy bees that pollinate our food supply. The easiest thing for all of us to do is to plant some flowers. It’s no secret that bees love flowers. They need the nectar from the flowers to survive. Even if it’s a few hanging baskets with flowers you’re doing your part.

I know many individuals loathe dandelions. So they pour chemicals on their lawns to kill them off. But it isn’t just those dandelions you are taking out. You are also killing off bees. Just cut back on the harsh chemicals. It could save a bee.

And since fall is lasting longer don’t forget to plant some of those flowers that blossom in the fall.

Put some of these into action and you could save the bees.

Today I Want To

Today I want to go back to bed. I feel tired and I want to sleep. And I could go to sleep right now. But I can’t. I have to keep that appointment I set.

Today I want to stay home. But once again I cannot. There is that paycheck I need to earn.

Today I want to go for a long hike in the woods. But I think my feet are sore so I just want to prop them up.

Today I want to ask my neighbor kid to mow the lawn. But that involves going over to their house and I just want to rest my feet.

Today I have a list of tasks I want to accomplish. But I realize I don’t have enough time before I go to work.

It seems like there are a lot of things I want to do today, but somehow I just won’t be able to. Maybe I’ll be able to do more of what I want tomorrow.

You're The Star Blog Hop

What do you do with an extra two hours? We often think that two hours isn't much time, and in a way it isn't, but when it's taken out of your day, it throws your whole daily routine off. That's what has happened to me this week. Friday and Sunday I had to work an extra two hours. I got home late, and I felt rushed to get everything I planned completed. In fact, I had to cancel some plans. But I realized that even though I don't think I accomplish much in those two hours each day, I really do. And hopefully I get off work on time tomorrow so my life isn't so rushed.

Wedding Do's And Don'ts

Everyone has a story about a wedding that has gone wrong. Or just some incidents that have occurred that put a little tarnish on a couple’s special day. Here are a few wedding do’s and don’ts.

Don't ask Gollum to be the ring bearer

We all know this will just go totally wrong. He will find the ring to be precious! He may not want to give it up.

Do: Have dress fitting with the ladies.
Make sure that the dresses all fit well. Nobody wants a wardrobe mishap at a wedding. It makes for good stories, but it is extremely embarrassing. Make sure that the fitting is done with enough time to make alterations if necessary.

Don’t: Have bad thai food right before trying on dresses.

Yep, bad food, can make for a bad fitting. Does this really need anymore explanation.

Do: have a nice wedding.

Weddings are meant to be a celebration for everyone involved. So make sure you enjoy the time with friends and family.

Don't:think the more that you spend the happier your marriage will be.

Your wedding day is a special day, but keep in mind it is one day. Don’t go into debt over your wedding. I mean don’t you want to be able to afford a home after your wedding?

Do take your vows seriously.

In a time when divorce is common, it often feels like individuals don’t take their vows seriously. Remember these are serious vows that should be thought through before you make them.
Don't cross your fingers while saying them.

If you have doubts about being able to keep your vows maybe marriage isn’t for you. There are no maybes with the commitment.

Do write down what everyone gave you so you can write a personal thank you.

Keep track of who sent you a gift. It’s easy to have someone write all the information down for you. And well worth the time. That person is an important part of your bridal party.

Don't skip sending a thank you to people who didn't give you cash or a check

And I repeat don’t forget that thank you note. I recently had a conversation with someone who was very offended because she had not received a thank you note for the shower gift or wedding gift she gave to a friend. This is one of the small things that can alter friendships. If you wanted the individual there for your special day. Take time to make them feel like their presence was special to you.

The Unicorn Dress

There are times when you find a really cute dress. You have scored when you went thrifting. But you know that if you add just a little something it could be even better than it already is. That's what happened with this cute little dress I picked up a couple of months ago. I wanted something super kawaii. And I thought adding a unicorn to this dress would do the trick.

I thought it would take just a couple of minutes because the patch was an iron on patch. But while I was happy with most of the iron on process, the edges seemed like they didn't adhere well. So I whipped out a needle and thread, and sewed along the edges of the patch. Does anybody else have that problem with iron on patches?

This is how it turned out, and I must say I got a lot of compliments on it when I wore it the other day!
The unicorn was a great little addition to this spring dress. And yes, I will post some pictures of it later with me wearing the dress.
