Ways To Make Your Paint Job Last Longer

Have you ever painted a room and a few months later it just doesn't look good. And it isn't the color you have a problem with. The paint just isn't lasting. Here are a few ways you can make your paint job last longer.

Don't Get Cheap

The paint you choose should stay with you for a few years. So don't skimp on quality. And once you have started painting don't water the paint down to make it go further. It is made to to be used as it is when you purchase it.

More Is Better

That second coat of paint is important. It will thicken the coat of paint and this means your paint's life could be extended by years. It doesn't take long to add that second coat so just do it.

High Sheen Vs. Flat

I prefer flat paint jobs. But this isn't the best choice for areas that need a little extra cleaning. But if you have imperfections in the wall like patched areas high sheens will show up more.

So what tips do you have on painting your house.

Saving The Maumee

I think I've mentioned before that there are moments in life that bring a smile to your face. Here's a few of those moments that have occurred recently in my life while I was at a fundraiser.

I recently went to a fundraiser for Save The Maumee. It's a local group that works to make the rivers in our community more healthy. It was a fun event. And I wish I could have spent more time there. But I did have to go to work. There was a band playing that I didn't catch the name of,but I wish I had because they sounded great.

And because environmental causes attract hippies the crowd was carefree and colorful. Everyone there just seemed focused on enjoying the moment. So these were definitely people I could relate to.

And how is it that you always find the most interesting artwork items at these events. I mean I would have never looked at a tea kettle and thought that would be a great wind chime.

All in all I can't wait for the next event this group plans because it will be fun I know.

You're The Star Blog Hop

I am so glad another Monday has arrived. It's means the week work week will be winding down soon for me. But for others it is the beginning of a week. I sort of enjoy working weekends. When I go back to work on Friday most people are happy because it is the end of their work week. And when everyone comes back to work on Monday I can ignore their comments about work because I am more than halfway through my work week.

Recent Listens

Once again it is time for me to share some of the music I have been listening to recently. It's a mix of old and new. I mean can things get any better than that?

Octo Octa Fleeting Moments of Freedom

This is a great electronic song. And it will make you want to dance. I love the fact that it doesn't rely on lyrics just music to express itself.

Modest Mouse Buddy Holly Cover

I like Buddy Holly and I have been a Modest Mouse fan for years. A lot of people didn't like this cover, but I think it's fantastic! I love how they put their unique twist on the song instead of trying to do it just like Buddy Holly. I mean isn't this part of what makes so great? People making things their own?

Perry Como Papa Loves Mambo

I always picture couples dancing when I hear this song. I guess that is kind of what was intended. It's a fun pick me up song I think.

Tom Petty Wildflowers

I was sad when I found out Tom Petty died earlier this year. His music always brings back happy memories for me. And I've always liked the song Wildflowers. It has a pretty melody and the lyrics are great!

Dashboard Confidential We Fight

This song is kind of an anthem. But I love the lyrics. I love how talks about picking ourselves up.

So what music has caught your interest recently?

Fabrics

I recently visited the fabric store and craft store. I'm always fascinated by the variety of fabrics. I love seeing the different shades of colors. And I really love the designs that I see when I go to these stores. It's just an interesting thing to look at in my opinion. Here are a couple of photos I took of the fabrics on a recent trip to the fabric store.

I Just Can't Attend That Staff Meeting

I used to have this job where I had to attend staff meetings. Staff meetings can be very boring. But if you don't attend you run the risk of being assigned the most awful tasks the meeting has to offer. But if you decide to skip that meeting make sure you have a good or at the very least creative excuses. Here are a few suggestions.

My restraining order states I have to stay 50 feet from (name of coworker). This is a believable excuse if you have had a strained relationship with a coworker. It may not fly but it is creative.

It was scheduled after I left the building and before I returned to the building. It really isn't possible to do something if you aren't there and didn't know about it isn't it?

I have to keep watching Koop videos on YouTube. Everyone has their priorities in life don't they?

And last but not least I have to put together my survival kit for the impending zombie apocalypse.

Please let me know how these suggestions work for you.

Valentine's Thrift Outfit

My thrifty finds include some really great items for the past week. And I decided to show what I found, and how I combined it into my Valentine's Day outfit.

That's a look at the entire outfit. The dress is a really cute red knit dress put out by Candie's. I picked it up for $4.50. It is the perfect red for Valentine's Day!
I added this boho style necklace. The key piece is a antiqued silver, and the lace is actually red beads. It is so simple, but yet it looks great.

I opted for a set of flats to go along with this outfit. I just wanted something a little more comfortable than heels. And I always feel that flats add a cute factor to most outfits. I really like the combination of studs and a bows on these flats. And I added a pair of black striped tights. (The tights actually weren't thrifted.

You can see some of the detail on the dress with this picture. I love how the top of the dress had horizontal stripes knit into the patter, and the skirt has vertical stripes. It's just a nice little touch.

So what have you all thrifted recently? And what did you do for Valentine's Day?

Which Whisk Is Right For You?

I never knew until recently that there is more than one kind of whisk for cooking. And then one day I was at the store and I noticed that there were two whisks that looked really different so I decided to do a little reading and see why. Here is some of what I found.

The Balloon Whisk

It's the one that looks like a balloon. The bulbous shape and rounded shape allows for better aeration. It's the best choice for foods that require volume. In other words it is perfect for egg whites and whipped cream.

The French Whisk

If you can only have just one whisk, this is the one for you. It can be used for whip air into any ingredients. It is most effective with mayonnaise and vinaigrettes.

Flat Whisk

This whisk is great for stirring smaller pans and skillets. It works really great when you are making gravies and sauces. And it is the best for lifting out poached eggs.

So these are the basic whisks that are easy to find, and will make those meals you are preparing so much easier to make.

You're The Star Blog Hop

Mondays are kind of new beginning. We all dread Mondays, but they roll around each week. I was binge watching The Walking Dead this past week. And I realized they live in a world where there is no Monday. There are just days. And you better believe those people are thankful they got to see the next day. Well at least most of them are. But wouldn't it be kind of cool just for a while to not have to think that each day is a new beginning, but for you to really know that it is a new beginning. Off to the hop now.

The Olympics

I was listening to the news this afternoon. There was a story about how the Vice President did stand when the joint Korean team entered during the opening ceremonies. At first I thought what does that have to do with anything in real life?

Then I thought if you are Korean a united team would be a big deal. There must be a feeling of something is missing whenever things occur that involve the two nations. Families split apart for years. A sense of not knowing how people who have shared something in common with you in the not distant past don't know how you live today.

I also thought about a story I heard about Jesse Owens. Owens was at the 36 Olympics in Berlin. Times were a little tense, and Owens was considered inferior by the Nazi's who were in charge. He was having a little difficulty with his long jump. One of the members of the German team gave him a tip on how to get a little more distance on his jump. It was a tip from an unlikely source. The tip worked.

Did that act change world events? No, but it is a reminder that The Olympics are a time when politics can be put aside just for a moment. And the right thing can be done.

Thankful Moments

Every once and a while you have to sit back and think about the things that that you have to be thankful for. And these are a few of the things I am thankful for today.

New Eyeglasses

It feels wonderful to put on a new pair of glasses and to be able to see the world clearly. It's not gradual either. It is immediate. The world all of the sudden is brighter and clearer. It's like a miracle.

Giving

I am so thankful that I have enough to share with others. Every day I see people who are in need. I am thankful that I don't have to worry about not being able to pay my bills. It always reminds me that I need to share my prosperity with others.

Good Health

I have a coworker who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I was reminded how fortunate I am to be healthy.

Speaking My Mind

I am blessed to be able to say what I think. Instead of bottling up how I feel about situations I can say what I think and feel about it. It makes life a lot less stressful to get things off your chest.

Those are a few of the things I am thankful for recently what are you thankful for?

Whiskey Sour Book Review

Whiskey Sour is a novel by J. A. Konrath. I have read this book several years ago and I enjoyed it. So I recently gave it a reread. Here's my review of the book.

The Story

Jack Daniels is a Lt. in the Chicago Police Department. She works in the violent crimes section, and there is a serial killer active in her city. He calls himself The Gingerbread Man. And he is one sick dude. But Jack is determined to catch him. The Gingerbread Man decides that Jack would be a great victim. He would thoroughly enjoy watching her suffer. But Jack isn't that easy to trap.

What I Think

I really liked Jack. She is a cop who has worked her way up through the ranks. And it wasn't easy for her. She is just a little too dedicated to her job though. And I could relate to how her personal life suffered when she is too dedicated. I like that things don't always go right for her either. This book also shows just how much harassment Jack has to take. It felt a little timely even though it was written several years ago. And I loved how the victims in this book were chosen. It's not random, but it is a little tough to figure out. This is a fun mystery and I really should look at more books by this author.

Potsticker Skillet

Once again I found myself digging through the fridge to see what I could make for dinner. I found a package of pot stickers in the freezer, and I thought that is what I am using as the basis for this meal.

Here's What You Need

1 bag of frozen pot stickers
1 cup Portobello mushrooms
2 cups fresh spinach
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup soy sauce

Here's What You Do

Heat your oil in a skillet. Put the potstickers in the oil and fry for five minutes. Next add your mushrooms and continue frying for another five minutes. Then add the spinach and fry until spinach is wilted. Then add the cherries cook for 2 minutes. Then lower your heat and add your soy sauce. Cook for another 2 minutes.

It tastes great!

I Watched The Whole Movie

Have you ever watched a movie and afterwards said to yourself I can believe I watched the whole movie. I decided to share a few movies that made me ask that question.

Honkey Holocaust

Charles Manson's child has lived underground and sheltered for years. Charles dies, and his followers leave their underground shelter to see the world. It has changed significantly, but not the way Charlie predicted. And as she wanders through this world she finds that the hatred her father preached doesn't solve any problems.

This movie is graphic. But it's that cheap, blood shots that are gross, but obviously not real.

Haters Back Off

Imagine a person who believes they have talent but they so obviously don't. That's what this Netflix series is all about. Miranda Sings is the lead character. I did watch the entire first season. I felt like I should have liked this program, but I absolutely hated Miranda. She just annoyed me far too much. And I know that is her character. But I just couldn't get past it. I just don't want to see the next season.

High School USA

I really like animation. So if I see an animated program, I will usually give it a try. It usually works out positively. But not in the case of High School USA. I just didn't connect with the characters. And so sadly I can't believe that I watched the entire thing. Why did I do that? Did I think I was going to start liking it?

American Mary

This is actually a good movie, I put it in this post because it is really twisted. And there is a little bit of violence that was a little too realistic for my tastes. But the story line was so great! And it is all about revenge. It's an indy film. And I watched it on youtube. If you like horror movies that make you think this one is for you.

Ilse She Wolf Of The SS

This movie is just gross. But it's a cult classic. It is violent in awful ways, and Ilsa is just sick! I think I kept watching it because Ilsa is just to see what happens to hear. It uses sex, violence, and mixes it into one of the sickest cult films I've seen. Apparently, there are several movies with Ilsa in the them. Not sure I can stomach any more of them though. In this one she is a Nazi officer who takes full advantage of her rank to perform so truly awful things on inmates of a camp.
So have you watched any movies where you absolutely have to watch the entire thing even though you didn't like it?

Someone asked me the other day why was I so quiet today? My response simply was, I don't have anything to say. There are times when I just don't want to vocalize what I am thinking about. I need to share everything with I know. And sometimes it's just nice to add a little mystery to your life. Anyway, it is time for the hop. Maybe We Should Do This A Different Way

Recently, I was presented with a problem. Not a big problem. Just one where I decided it was time to draw a line. You see there is an issue with individuals calling in sick on Saturday nights at my job. The problem is it feels like it is the same people who call in sick. It has become such an issue that we recently received that collective lecture about the issue.

I was okay with the collective talk because I know the rules have to be laid out clearly before problems can be addressed. But then Saturday rolled around and two of the individuals who seem to be gone frequently weren't there.

Suddenly the manager decides it might be a good idea to train me to do their jobs. I was just a little miffed and reminded the manager that we had just received the attendance lecture. She said that is true. And she let it rest. Because she knows that is the real problem. I don't know if that will be the end of it. But I did feel better because I said something.

Just What I Needed

Have you ever driven down the road, and thought to yourself things just never go anywhere? You aren't depressed, but just wanting just a little more than you have in the moment. And then you drive past a building that has this posted on the side of it.

And you think to yourself how did that artist know exactly what I needed at that very moment?

Emior Product Review

I was really fortunate when I was given the opportunity to review Emoir products. The company sent me a total of four items from their product line. The collection included Fruit Exfoliator, Gel Cleanser, Eye Cream, and Anti-Aging Serum.

The packaging for these products is attractive. I like the pink boxes and the Emior symbol in gold on the box.  The eye cream and anti-aging serum both came in a box with a magnetic closure. This is a plus in my opinion. It assures that your items don't fall out of the package before you receive them.

The exfoliator and gel cleanser both had a peel off sticker on the tube to assure that the items don't leak before you even use it. I love these. I don't know how many times I have brought beauty products home and the gels leak from the package. It always makes me feel like I've wasted my money. This won't happen with these items.

The eye cream and the anti-aging serum are both pump containers. I like pump containers because you get a little more control over the amount of product that is used.

The first item I used was the exfoliator. It did come out of the container easily. And the instructions tell you to use it twice daily. I always find that to be a bit excessive. I massaged it into my skin. There was a gritty feel that comes with all good exfoliators. It spread easily. But it didn't rinse off very easily. This was my least favorite of the products I received. But it does work.

The cleansing gel was easy to use, but make sure you follow the directions and lather it up before you begin to apply it to your face. My skin felt clean and great after using this product.

The eye cream was also easy to pump out. The pump really does work well with this product. And my eyes felt moisturized when I used the product. I haven't used it enough to see if it actually does lift as it claims. I hope so.

The anti aging serum was the last item I used. It does make your skin feel softer after using it. And it seemed like it looked healthier after one use. It claims to help reduce age spots, and time will tell if that is true.

These products are not inexpensive. But you do pay for what you get in life. And they do seem to be of a high quality in presentation and use.

So I would definitely recommend the eye cream, cleansing gel and anti aging serum. I will have to try the exfoliator again to see if I want to purchase the item.

Disclaimer:

I did receive a free product in exchange for an honest review, but all of the opinions are all mine.

February Goals 2018

It is February. The weather turned cold today. And I realized that my goal setting posts are actually helpful to me. Often the goals are projects that I have on my mind at the beginning of the month. I think that these projects would just be things I want to, but I never do them. Setting goals on my blog gives me a sense of urgency. I feel like I need to do what I say I want to accomplish. Most months I accomplish my goals. So if you blog and you want to get yourself moving on some projects try telling your goals to the world. Let's see how I did with my goals in January.

My first goal was to organize my coloring books. The goal was really to put together a cool storage container for my coloring books. I have been working on the box but somehow it is taking longer than I planned. So this goal is half finished. I will keep working on the box.

The next goal was to push toward the next craft fair. I wanted to work on items for the fair each day. I made a ton of bath bombs. I did not work on items every day though. Technically I didn't complete the goal, but the goal helped me produce more inventory. So the spirit of the goal was met. Does that count?

The third goal was to plan out my vacation budgets. I did work out an amount of money I want saved for each vacation. So let the savings begin.

My final goal was to call about the teddy bear project. I did this. And I am set to meet with the group next week. Yay me!

This month I want to do the following.

Idea Board

I've made some in the past, and they really pushed me toward being much more creative. So I need to start putting one together again.

Purchase tickets

I am a fan of Dropkick Murphy's. They rock! I've seen them play before and they will be close by got to purchase some tickets.

The Basement

Yeah it is always a work in progress, but I am really feeling the need to clean one section of the basement up so I have more room to work down there. Clear out some crap is the goal.

Mascara

I just went through my makeup and got rid of some old mascara. I need to find a new one that I really like. So this month I am going to hunt down a really good new mascara. Anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure to check back next month to see how I did with my goals.
