Thai Soup

Sometimes you think you know exactly what you’re going to get. You order a bowl of soup, and you’re sure you are going to get it in a bowl like you have at home. But instead it’s brought out like this. And you think to yourself even a bowl of soup can bring a surprise.

You’re The Star Blog Hop

Happy Memorial Day! While it’s not officially summer, it sure feels like summer. The temperature has hit ninty. And part of me is grumping about the hea. And another part of me is grateful for it. I think I’m actually more thankful for it. I actually enjoy the heat as long as I can get out of it for part of the day. I always think to myself this is what you waited for the entire winter.

What’s The Plan Here?

Have you ever had times when you make plans with other individuals. Yep, you know what is going to happen. Then they tell you no we need to meet at a different time. You are like okay. If we run on time we can still do what we planned. But then they you a message saying they have to stop by somewhere before they get to your house.

At this point you feel a little disappointed. And then when the individual arrives you remind them that what you is over and offer another suggestion. They aren’t really interested. At this point you ask yourself why do I bother? The individual begins telling you about some other changes that are going on with plans you are involved in. The individual is frustrated and you offer some suggestions and they aren’t interested.

At this point you are getting a little tired of this. So you finally ask what’s the plan here? Keep in mind they have shot down all of your ideas so far. The answer to your question is I don’t know. And once again I ask myself why do I do this to myself?

The List Checker

Everyone uses a different method of completing tasks. Some people seem to just be able to get up and get things done. Each day they just do things immediately. I personally admire these people. I always feel they are super motivated.

But I am not one of those individuals. I am a list checker. I have to sit down and take a look at what needs to be done. I then make a list of what I want to do. And then I can get to work. As I complete tasks I can check them off. In some ways it is a game. I can see exactly what I have done on paper. When the list is all checked off, I am able to give myself a big pat on the back.

The problem is when I don’t finish the list. There is a complication. Do I continue the list the next day, or do I just throw it away and start over. It’s a big decision for list maker. I often find that I just continue the list the next day. And when I finish that last I tell myself it’s done.

Why We Love Those Hippies

Everybody knows a hippie or two. I mean real hippies that have had several sixties. They just refuse to leave that decade. And you have to admit that you really do love them.

We love these hippies because they just refuse to yield. They are not going to give up their past. And their past is their present.

We love them because they always talk about peace and being at one with the world, but they usually have the most drama in their live.

They throw the best parties. Their parties last for days not just a couple of hours. They enjoy burning man and raves.

If they begin a story with this one time. It’s going to be a story worth listening to because it’s all about a big experience that many individuals wish would happen to them.

These people aren’t afraid of color. I mean they brought tie dye into the world. How can you go wrong with that?

And because they love the earth they actually are good to know just in case there really is a zombie apocalypse. They already have some of those survival skills.

Gargoyle Guard

I went for a walk in the county extension garden the other day. And this is what I saw. I saw a gargoyle watching over the garden. I thought it would look really cool in black and white. Let me know what you think of the picture.

Grand Prize Winner will receive a:  $20 Gift Card To Amazon & a Copy of the Book "A Candle for My Mother"

4 Runners-up will receive a:  copy of the book "A Candle for My Mother"

Author: Pamela Newton
About the Book:
A Candle for My Mother is an inspirational story of a young woman from the Midwest, Lorraine Newton, who longed to travel the world despite being the mother of four young children. “I’m going to see places, come hell or high water!” Lorraine remarked, and she made it happen. Lorraine’s stories in the book are told in her own words from tape recordings she made before she died, and letters saved by a friend, detailing Lorraine’s family’s amazing experiences in Iraq and travels in Europe. Into the bubbling political cauldron of the Middle East in the 1950s ventured an American family. Iraq was not necessarily what Lorraine had in mind, but the country fit exotic to a tee. It conjured up “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves,” markets filled with silks and gold, and travel in Europe on vacations. Lorraine was about to embark on a grand adventure. Pamela Newton never felt closer to her mom than when she was traveling, sometimes logging over 100,000 miles a year: “Mom’s adventurous spirit was with me on every trip, in every country, encouraging me to make the most of each moment.” The things that Pamela experienced on her business trips often triggered a remembrance of her mother and her childhood. Those memories became the reflections and gratitude's that Pamela expresses at the end of each chapter when visiting churches across the globe to light candles for her mother, a tradition she began in Westminster Abbey. For readers who may be reminded of exciting memories from their childhood, A Candle for My Mother has been designed with pages interspersed throughout for writing personal reflections. Here a son or daughter can add their favorite pictures, recount “Best Day Ever” times, write a thank you to their mom, or include poems, musings, or thoughts. It is designed to be a gift to oneself or one’s mom. Read it, write in it and then give it to your mother…with gratitude.

To Delete Or Not Delete

Facebook is a great thing. It can connect us to the world. It connects us to family members we want to stay in contact with, but we have difficulty finding time to do it. It tells us about what is going on in our town. There are bands playing and festivals to attend. We learn about many of those things through our social media. And then there are those addictive games. You just can’t wait to play again.

But then something happens. You find yourself spending way too much time on Facebook. You are arguing with individuals on your account. There is a time when you have to decide to delete or not to delete.

That happened to me a few years ago. Things were less than perfect in my life. The games were taking over my life. And I was making foolish posting decisions. Nothing awful, but they just weren’t me. So I decided to get all of that under control. I deleted the account. I don’t regret it. I shed some followers that weren’t where I was going in life. I remembered the ways I needed to deal with situations in my life. And then one day I decided I wanted to be on Facebook again. I found I didn’t need to share as much on social media. It was what it was intended for staying in touch with people, but not sharing everything.

So if you feel like social media is taking over your life take a break from it you won’t regret it.

Saturday’s Freaky Facts

My friends and I love to play trivia games. It’s best when you win the prizes. But it’s always a great way to show off all that useless knowledge we all possess.  Here’s a few freaky facts to get you prepared for those trivia games in your life.

The Greek national anthem has 158 verses. Imagine singing that before a ball game.

Butterflies used to be called flitterbys. It seems a little more fitting than butterfly to me.

Anyone could walk up to the White House before World War II. During the war guards were posted due to the need for increased security. You can’t even go to the mall without seeing security guards now.

One of Mozart’s many masterpieces includes Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I never would have guessed that before today.

One day on the planet Mercury is equal to six months on earth. Imagine how work days drag on Mercury.

So now you are prepared for that next trivia game you play.

Work With What You Got

There are times when you want to do something to make your yard a little different from everyone else’s, but that can cost a little bit of money. You realize that you have to work with what you’ve got. That’s what I thought when I saw this fire hydrant. I mean it looks like a yard decoration than your regular fire hydrant doesn’t it?

Stop Trashing

Another election season has begun. And most of us know that politics is a subject that can get you into trouble during any conversation. I recently had the opportunity to hear a candidate speak, and I was impressed when she stated that she intended to listen to her colleagues. I thought this is different.

And then today I heard someone discussing an incident where they mentioned that we all need to be respectful of other individuals opinions. And someone replied that all of those individuals were stupid. He pointed out that that individual was actually calling individuals he cared about stupid. After all members of a family may have extremely diverse opinions when it comes to politics.

In essence we need to stop trashing other people’s points of view. There are three ways we can all solve the problem.

First stop calling individuals with different opinions stupid. We need to have open conversations with the people in our lives. I never want to discuss issues with individuals who make general statements about individuals who lean one way or another politically. Why risk the chance of being an attacked.

Second you can watch your social media. Rants are never appreciated by anyone. Getting things off your chest when you are angry isn’t wise on Twitter or Facebook.

And lastly stop supporting individuals who are making those generalizations. Hey politicians need money, just don’t support people who act that way. It doesn’t matter what your beliefs are.

So stop trashing the people in my life with your generalizations.

You're The Star Blog Hop

Today I worked in my yard. Yes, there’s progress being made in the garden. Flowers are beginning to bloom. And those seeds are taking hold and new plants are coming up. I always find that exciting. It’s new life and it’s seeing progress on your hard work. And the thing that made working out there today was the sunshine. It felt great to just be moving on a warm spring day.

A Mother Is

A mother is the first person we know in life.  She comes in different shapes, colors and sizes. She shows us the world, and teaches how to act in our surroundings. The person who shows us what friendships are all about is a mother.

Mothers get us up and out of the house every day, which may be one the biggest challenges that each day presents. Our moms take time they don’t have to help us with our problems. Even though they may barely can deal with everything life has presented them.

So to all the moms out there Happy Mother’s Day!

The Great Outfit Hunt Update

A few weeks ago, I started the great outfit hunt. The outfit includes a black and red striped shirt. I went to a places and found three shirts that might work. I think I like the shirt in the first picture best. But the neckline isn’t exactly like the outfit. I think the neckline in the second is more like the one in the outfit. Visit the initial post and let me know which one you think will work best.

Waiting

I don’t enjoy waiting. I don’t enjoy waiting on pretty much anything. But the past couple of I have found myself wanting to tell people to hurry up because I was tired of waiting on them.

I find myself waiting at the doctors office. I don't really want to be at the doctors office sometimes annual physicals seem so pointless. I wait to get in, then I have to wait once I get past the waiting room? I mess with my phone, and think to myself how did we spend time waiting before all of this technology? What would I be doing? I would be thinking where is that doctor? Oh, yeah, I'm thinking that anyway.

Then I have to go to the gas station, somehow I picked the busiest time of day to go get gas. I blame it all on having to wait on the doctor. I finally, get the gas I need.

Then today, I go to a sale, a huge sale. It's a plant sale. It's a fund raiser for the local botanical gardens. It is packed. I grab a bunch of plants. I get in the line. It's a long line. And the lady tells me I have to go get in another line to be tallied up. And then I have to go to the back of the line again. I groaned. But what do you do? The plants were really great, and the prices were pretty awesome too! I wait to be tallied, and as I turn to go back to the end of the line a lady grabs my arm and says get in line in front of us. I thought God has answered my prayer. I didn't have to spend all of my time waiting today.

Today I Am Thankful For

There are so many things in life to be thankful for. I think that we often think more about our problems than what is good in our lives. These are the things I am thankful for today.

The warm air you feel when you drive down the road with the windows open on the car. You know spring will definitely turn into summer days soon.

Thrift stores because they are always an adventure. You always seem to find things you didn’t know you were looking for.

The Moth Radio Hour always has stories that hold my attention. Some of them make me laugh, and others bring tears to my eyes. If you haven’t listened to it you should.

Spring is wonderful because it brings us every color in the rainbow. All you have to do is walk into your backyard and see the flowers.

What are you thankful for today?

May Goals 2018

It’s the eighth of May and I realized that I have not set any goals for the month. I usually review the goals I set for the past month but I have a time limit today. So here’s the goals.

Finish that DIY dress. I have a simple diy project for a dress. It’s a summer outfit and it’s super kawaii. Aren’t pastels the best?

Get together items for a sale. I have loads of stuff I want to get rid of. I need to sort through it so I can turn it into cash.

Cemetery crawl faithful readers know that I have a love of cemeteries. It’s been a while since I have gone on a crawll. Want to make it happen this month.

Read I love reading but some times I get so busy that I don’t take the time to do it. This month I want to set aside at least fifteen minutes each day reading. Don’t know how this will work, but I want to make it happen.

You're The Star Blog Hop

It's another Monday. This past week has been just what I needed. Yep, I had a vacation day at work. It's funny how just one day can make a huge difference doesn't it? I found that I didn't have a craving to go home early like I usually do. I mean I want to go home from work, but it wasn't that get me out of here feeling I have sometimes. Hopefully, all of you had a great Cinco de Mayo. And does anybody have a great recipe for Margarita cookies out there? I was really disappointed when I went to buy some at a place I have purchased them before, and they didn't have them any longer. How could that be?
